I guess we don't want to be involved in this then?

And if you play with fire prepare to get burnt, you're right, your racism weakens your argument.
who are all these immigrants slagging others, aren't we all Europeans?

I didn't think it was Europeans that were the problem.

It's not now, but 70 years ago it was - Britain and the allies did what was right and as a result Christians ,Hindus ,Buddhists ,Jews ,& Sikhs all live together in peace & have respected the democratic values ...But Islam doesn't. When they are minorities ,they want a secular country ..But when they become the majority they want Islamic nation. Islam should be labelled as a hate group for it's open hatred of Jews, homosexuals, the disabled and women. The Koran should be banned like Hitlers Mein kampf, as it IS worse: more intolerant, more dangerous, and more hateful.

I think a lot of the rants on here are not about race necessarily but the sudden influx of immigrants. I am an immigrant. I came here forty odd years ago for exactly the same reasons that the current crop of refuge seeking people, better chances for my kids and a better life style. The difference is that Australia was advertising for immigrants, God, they even paid most of the fare (it cost us twenty quid for myself, my wife and two small kids). We had to undergo background checks, medicals and an interview. We had to have a sponsor here in Oz so that when we arrived we had accommodation and support. Now both my kids have been through Uni, both work in senior government jobs and one has a child that is currently at Uni. In my case, I think it was a good move. So I don't blame the people for coming, I just wish they would come in the front door and not try to sneak in the back.

I'm in a very similar position to you (except I came over here much more recently), and therefore would find it very hypocritical to say others cannot move country because of whatever situation they may be in. Personally, I believe if they are going to work hard then I have no real problem whatsoever. I just don't think the benefits should be handed out, or at least for a set period of time (ie. 2 years).

It's kinda difficut to come in the front door when you only have the clothes you stand up in, and have no form of identification whatsoever 'cos your home has been bombed flat, or you have fled with no notice to save the lives of you & your family. As far as I'm aware, there is no passport issuance service atm, and even if there was, they still expect you to be able to identify yourself. Herein lies the root cause of the 'back door entry'.

Josh, it was a lot easier for us because A: we spoke the language B; we had the same social concepts as most of the countries inhabitants and C; we didn't 'stand out' as being different. Jobs were a lot easier to get then (in fact I was working three at a time) and in Canberra, where we lived, I would hazard a guess that most of the people in our area were immigrants from somewhere so we all got along. As far as I know, everyone did work hard.

Jock, I take your point, but many of these people have been in 'foreign' countries for years. What have they been doing in that time? Surely, if it were you, wouldn't you have made something of a life for yourself in that time, however meagre? But I still believe that if you can't adequately identify yourself, breaking down the back door is not acceptable.

I never said you mentioned me. Although it doesn't take a genius to know who it was aimed at.
I've looked back on this thread and found nothing that I said was vile.
Just because we have differing opinions doesn't make my comments racist.
I'm not political not religious, not an imigrant. I was born and bred in Ireland. I know my background, unlike others.
There seems to be a leftie and right divide on here.
Everyone has racist views. If I was making hate speeches then fair enough, but I'm just giving an honest opinion.
I just wish if anyone has a problem with me including you Glory, please say it to my face.
I'm not going to rip into you as you say, because you are entitled to your opinion, like I am to mine, the difference is that I respect yours.
The last thing I'll say, is that you have a go at me for bringing other people's names into the discussion, but yet you do it to.

I haven't got a problem with families moving to escape war torn countries and seeking a safer place, but when you see groups of men in their 20's arriving on a Greek beach wearing designer gear, and the first thing they do is whip out a selfie stick to take a group photo as though they were on a lads holiday, they hardly look like they've just escaped persecution.
It's the economic migrants like these that I object to, and there's thousands of them, who then proceed to cross Europe thinking they have a divine right to pick and choose where they end up.
And you can't tell me that out of these thousands of people there's no European Christian hating murdering ISIS scum amongst them intent on wreaking havoc - ISIS themselves said back in February they'd flood Europe with 50,000 of their ilk.

Looks like their plan is working

    Lets park it.
I dont agree with some of the stuff being posted not just by you, the place seems to have moved from mocking and pi55 taking has developed an EDFlike splinter group and it makes me uncomfortable.
If I am one of those you don't trust just remember when the chips are down (no pun intended) I would always have your back. I consider you a mate. i don't dring with peole I don't like.

Messageboards do mean things get misunderstood by everyone.
This might be one of the occasions.
As i said I wont be commenting further on the migrant/scrounger/scumbag * (take your pick) debate. It winds me up too much.

It will be utterly impossible for the authorities of any country to carry out any meaningful background checks on these people, who are mainly young men . Does that tell you nothing ?
Therefore you cannot say with any certainty that they do not mean you or I any harm. Once they have citizenship of any EU country they will be free to go where they like.
Our forefathers fought and died for us to be free so we didn't have to live under Nazi rule and occupation.
But UK goverments since 1945 have callously and conveniently forgotten all of that bloodshed and depravation that our families faced in repelling Hitler, and through sheer bad government and lax immigration rules, we have allowed tens upon tens of thousands of undesirables onto our shores and into our towns and cities.
We are now all living in the shadow of terrorism all day every day because of this ridiculous policy, and now it's too late. It's a question of when the next atrocity takes place on UK soil, not if.
Yet some people seemingly want to raise our chances of being victims of this.
Look at your fellow travellers next time you board a busy bus, train, tube, or plane. Can you trust them ?

Nice comments Glory, I appreciate your sentiment. As I judge you as a friend, I was just taken a back by your your comments. Like I said before, it takes me a while to get to know people and to let my guard down. But it's water under the bridge now. Anyway, roll on Oct and we can have a few pints then........<cheers>

Does that mean you won't walk out of the pub if the bar staff are from a coloured ethnic minority? :emoticon-0173-middl <ale>
