How do you suggest it was handled then? I'm very interested to see where you think we've gone wrong?

I think it is the downside of loaning players out. Forster has been first choice for the last two seasons and doesn't want to be understudy. Obviously the club favours Krul and he knows it. Celtic wanted to buy this summer. Presumably Pards didn't want to sell at that price but maybe the option price is higher. Alot of speculation in there but that is I how I see it.

It is extremely difficult to keep 2 good goalkeepers happy, especially when they are decent young prospects looking to play 1st team football every week. I am not saying that they don't need competition for their place, but due to the fact that they rarely get injured or suspended as much as outfield players, and you cannot adjust your system to fit both of them into the team like you can with 2 midfielders, it is reasonable to assume that at some point one of them will want to leave. Both Krul and Forster have already hinted that they would consider leaving if they could not secure the no.1. spot this season.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that this guy Elliott is coming just to warm the bench. Having seen him play last season, I think that he will be pushing Krul for his place.

THIS. Anyone confused as to the movement of keepers is completely naive to the mindset of athletes, especially ones that play in a position in which only 1 player plays per week and consistency is necessary. Forster had an opportunity this pre-season to try and impress and demonstrate he can at least compete with Krul. Every toon player, fan, and coach saw Frasier blow his chance (I for one really hoped he'd impress). He himself surely knows he did, you could see it on his face in Leeds. He left because he needs to play every week to improve, and to prove that he can be a quality first-choice keeper, just like Soderburg knows he needs to play weekly if he as a young keeper is going to improve.

We are lucky to have a queue of quality young keeper prospects, but its not good for them, or the club to just have them stagnating on the bench, or in the reserves, end of.

Also the phrase "battle it out" is overused with GKs. Basically one plays while the other sits on the bench and hopes he gets injured.

Lets hope the management have more sense and don't right off young players so readily. Imagine if Bobby Robson, Sir Alex or Pep Guardiola had this attitude, they'd be ****ing nowhere. He is a baby in keeping terms and his abilities are actually well ahead of what you'd expect for a keeper his age. Jesus he had one stinker against Leeds and the lynch mob have been out since. Ridiculous and completely inaccurate.

Not if Forster looks at Krul in training and honestly thinks that Krul is better than him.

Well if Krul wasn't under the impression he's first choice right now, then it'd mean it isn't being dealt with properly! We're talking about a Dutch International keeper who is on form and is improving week in week out. The job is his to lose right now, and deservedly so. There are times to be on the fence about who should be first choice, but Krul is deserving right now, and for the club to do anything to suggest that's not true would be a huge disservice.

So its settled then. No football club in the world can have 2 good keeper at the same time.

    Moving on.

Of course they can you ****ing moron but why would Forster spend a season sat on the bench doing nothing just hoping Krul get's injured? It would be the same as Steve Harper's career all over again if we never let him go. One of the keepers has to be old and the other young to have 2 good ones. Forster had his chance in pre season, that's all the "battling out" that there can be.

Just because its hard to keep 2 keepers happy doesn't mean its impossible and one of them has to leave. Like any position you prove you are worthy of the shirt by showing it in training and the chances you do get in the team. And the management makes both keepers know and aware that neither of them are No.1.

But anyway ignore the above, so its settled then. No football club in the world can have 2 good keepers at the same time.

    Moving on.

Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Bolton, Aston Villa, Fulham, even Arsenal all have their no1 keepers. The guys sitting on the bench are rarely as good, or if they are good keepers then they move to another club. Did Given stay at City? Did Foster stay at Man utd?

Forster didn't take these with a few sloppy performances in pre-season. Krul is currently bang on form and is working his way to being the No.1 for his country. Krul knows full well he isn't No.1 yet, he even said it in a post-match interview, he had a chat with Pardew and he said he still has to work to stay our starting keeper.

How do you come to that conclusion? For all we know we might have 3 very good keepers in Krul/Bolec/Elliott next season. The difference being Bolec and Elliott will accept playing 2nd fiddle because they are coming from League 1 and Czech league. The point is you cannot expect Forster to sit and warm the bench! He won't do it and will just request a move if you try to force him. He has had three or four seasons of first team action now. He has been playing regularly, albeit in Scotland, for a massive club. This is the best solution for the club. Krul is progressing at a rate where he is going to attract attention from all round Europe, how long we can keep hold is unknown, particularly with Mikes penchant for making a quick buck. By loaning out Forster, they retain the option of bringing him back.
