I think five points would be enough to give us some breathing room, although it would probably lead to some hairy moments like needing a win against Watford. Seven points (especially if both wins are against Sunderland and Newcastle) or nine I am confident we wouldn't be relegated

I an quietly confident that 36 points will be enough this season.

Yeah I think that's a good estimate. Newcastle and Sunderland have eight games left and a point a game would be good going by their seasons so far, so I wouldn't be totally surprised if 34 points were enough

Teams always put a spurt on towards the end of the season and so the point per game, while good at this time will become irrelevant on the run-in. We need 40 to be in with a decent chance and we can do it!To add to the NE duo, I think Watford at home is a good shout for something as is Man Utd and Palace aay is a game where we could just take the spoils.

But bear in mind this team are growing in resolve and belief - Hughton's lot had had every last drop sucked out of them by this stage in the season :emoticon-0106-cryin

But surely it wasn't Hughton's relegation season, it was Adam's who took us down! Totally agree with Cromer though, there is no comparison between the seemingly deadmen sleep walking toward relegation under CH & Adams and the lads this time. For the last 5 games we have shown real fight and some small ammount of quality, only the last 3 have yielded points, but I now go into the Palarse game with hope of a point or three, a month ago it would have been resignation!

    Bah!

Thanks for the update JK! Remember also who the last 6 games were against in that season!

Thanks for the update, JK. Never such good reading after a loss, but looking good for overtaking 2013/14 and even 2012/13 sometime soon (like Saturday, hopefully!). The 2011/12 points figure seems high to me - I thought we only got 42 points in total that season and I'm sure we beat Villa in the final match.

The similarities with 2013/14 grow. Misarable losses to direct rivals, £8.5M front man who scores on debut and then looks less and less the player we hoped for. Sunderland readying to pip us at the post. My only hope lies with cup distractions, beach goers and that AN can do more than CH or NA to get us up and over the line. We don't look quite as demoralised as last times death march to relegation.

    Bah!

There could be several twists yet I suppose. I can't say I'm holding my breath though.

I went to the pub on Saturday to watch the game. Footy doesn't normally get me down too much after the match is over, but I was so glum I basically avoided everything football-related for the rest of the weekend.

I was prettty pee'd off having watched it at home so went down the pub to have it ripped out of me, but bumped into a mate who is a Notts County fan and got some perspective again. The buggers still extracted the Michael but misery loves company! I swallowed a few beers, picked the winner on the Scottish national paying for my drinks (and pizza on the way home later) and then having switched to a pub for one showing the Citeh vs Chelski game.
    It's only bloomin' football!

    Bah!
