I have had my knee done 3 times due to football. The last time it was done in a private hospital, although on the NHS. I arrived at 8am, as instructed. Day surgery. Put in a room, all of my own, sky tv the lot. Sat waiting. Surgeon came in, who had done me one previous time, and asked which knee am I doing so I pointed to the right knee and he drew a massive arrow pointing up my shin to it in marker pen amd wandered out I was last in, about 4ish. He came to see me in my room about 7ish and said you need to get up and walk around the room. I did it and was like bambi on ice. He said the anasthetic hasnt worn off so you can stay in for the night but tell the nurse you need to walk around your room every 5 mins every 2 hours. Nurse came in and I told her and she laughed and said why doesnt he try to walk you round every 2 hours she was brilliant and I had a right laugh with her. She even made me a cheese toasty at 2 am because I was famished. She said I could leave as soon as I could be picked up so my wife collected me at 7. I asked for crutches or a stick but was told they wont help my recovery. Walked out like steptoes dad
It's my opinion that it's the entire system that's wrong, and I believe many people vote for who they fear the least ,not because of any level of support or approval. The electorate can hardly be blamed for the very poor choices placed in front of them.
Part of the problem is that we've often little idea about who or what we're voting for. We've had Ministers in and out like the Hokey Cokey. People like Truss suddenly becomes our PM and Oliver Dowden ends up second in command ... ... who would ever have voted for that. And I still don't believe anyone had a clue about what they were voting for with Brexit. It seemed to be people voting against things rather than voting for something.
'Twas ever thus with ministers jumping around from one job to the next. No use, and It has the effect of giving too much power to unelected civil servants. Rabb the other day is not the first to find his and his government's will being thwarted. David Blunkett, Jack Straw and John Reid all complained publicly about resistance to their government's programme, the latter saying that the Home Office was " completely unfit for purpose". As with many following him, he was attempting to put in measures to control immigration. They effectively stopped him, but Reid was elected and they were not. That said, Theresa May was Home Secretary for nearly six years and was bloody useless!
It's a very easy excuse for being ineffective tbf. And, as the civil service are discouraged from responding, difficult to disprove.
Another problem , at least for me , is that next year I’m probably swaying toward a vote for Labour. But, there’s no way I want to vote for our local invisible does nothing current labour mp.
As I say though, many others down the years have made the same complaints. Maybe they were all wrong. Maybe not.
