He went for Sunderland, but declined Newcastle?

We'll be hearing about that for the rest of the season now...

Whether Harry stays or not is irrelevant now. Tottenham Hotspur is a very attractive job for any top manager now and hence why the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Marcelo Lippi etc would love to take over at White Hart Lane. Spurs have a great squad and I believe firmly they will finish in the top 3 this season.

Why is everyone on here so certain he won't become England manager? I think it's nailed on. The F.A can no longer hide behind safe, politically correct appointments. They can't get away with making those kind of decisions anymore and i think the appointment of Harry is a direct response to not appointing Clough all those years ago. There's just too much backing and zero alternatives. If he's cleared in January, he's got the job. To all those who believe he'll never get it, put your money where your mouth is. I'll bet he goes.

What attitude? I'm merely stating the fact that i'm almost certain he'll take the England job whilst opening up a friendly wager on it. I'd hardly call that a bad attitude. If you're talking about the vernacular, then perhaps you'd prefer it if i changed the tone...

"I'd like to a address all those silly rascals who, in the sincerest of manners, believe Henry Redknapp will not be bestowed with the fine honour of representing one's country. I fear this is a rum doo and i'm willing and able to offer handsomely to the chap who dares to challenge me. If the esteemed fellow in question were to be handed the role, i fear it will be you who repays me."

I am also a little bit lost as to why people seem to think that there is no substance in the idea that Harry may very well be offered the England job.

The difference between Harry and Clough is great. Harry might not appear squeeky-clean but he's not the obstinate gob-on-a-stick that Clough was. Harry seems to want to get on with people (one of his weaknesses perhaps) whereas Clough didn't give a monkeys who he upset.

Plus when Clough was being linked with the job in the 70s and 80s there were people like Ron Greenwood, Bobby Robson and Terry Venables in his way. Today there is no-one who has won European silver wear with the likes of Ipswich and West Ham. There are just no very obvious English candidates other than Harry.

Maybe there's hope in that the FA haven't (as they did before appointing McLaren) painted themselves into a corner by insisting that the new man HAS to be English no matter what.

Atleast, I suppose, there will actually be a reason to cheer on Terry, Lampard and co next summer. Do well and maybe Fabio'll get a new contract.

I personally don't see Harry leaving Tottenham this season if you keep up your current form. It would be stupid to leave at a time of great success, I just think he's the most likely candidate for the job from seeing what the FA are looking for AND seeing as he's the best English manager around

It depends upon how badly he wants the England job, Drogs.
He won't get another chance, in all likelyhood.

I think the debate about whether Redknapp wants it has been fully answered. He's made it perfectly clear he wants the job and this heart scare will have told him that slowing down and not commuting as regularly will agree with him. For him, both personally and health-wise, taking the job would be to his benefit.

In my opinion the only thing stopping him getting the job is the court case. If he's found guilty i'd say his chances are around the 40% mark (i still think he has a chance of getting it even if he is). If he's innocent, see ya Harry and good luck!

I think being found guilty would kill his chances completely, but otherwise the job is probably his.

My bad, that line just sounded arsey...apologies :)

I do think they'll want some longevity from the next manager, but I don't really know who else to suggest tbh, they may go the bizarre route of upgrading Pearce. Pardew may get thrown in...and out again! <laugh>
