I think it's a sign of the times more than anything that people are questioning Bony after only a few games. People want instant results and patience is at a premium, we can see this from the amount of managers that are sacked every season. Being a bit older, I realise I'm probably coming from an outdated point of view but in relation to some of the arguments made I would counter a few of them as follows: Bony being over-priced, I'm not so sure, is it really that much for a striker these days? Of course we had Michu at a snip last season but that was a one-off. Bony being over-rated, again I would tend to disagree, his scoring rercord speaks for itself, albeit in weaker leagues but he also has a better than a goal every 2 games at international level for a country ranked in the top 20. Over-weight, I'd go with stocky and powerful! And let's not forget he has actually scored, and against the current Premier League champs, and chipped in with a few against admiteddly minnow European teams. For me, I'm more than happy with his progress and can see him getting 12 plus Prem League goals, remember how DG started with us and he ended up doing fantastically in our first season up. Anyway, just my opinion and probably an outdated way of thinking, but it's just that -an opinion and not a slight at anyone at all, I always enjoy reading different points of view amongst the fans.
You seem to have a problem with strikers Dai. The only one you rate is the one we got shot of because he wasn't good enough any more.
Spot on kwame ! To be honest I was a little bit surprised that this thread appeared at all but each to their own . 12m is not a lot for a striker these days, because of the bump in tv money this year it was reflected in the prices of players but a few examples here Cornelious cost 8m Negredo cost about 20m and has scored the same amount of prem goals as bony Southampton paid 12m for rameriz last year and 15m for an Italian striker who as far as I know hasn't done anything so far in terms of goals. That's the market I'm afraid. Cardiff have paid almost10m for a defensive midfielder and Southampton 12m for the same thing ! Ours come for free ! Take the DG money or what can as is really worth and bony is a real bargain, feed him and he will score
Thought Bony was fantastic tonight. Got his goal, held the ball up really well, brought others into the game. All they could do was hack him down, the defence could not cope with him.
They'll justify it to themselves somehow. Dai's already started a slight backtracking exercise by claiming that it's the price he dislikes rather than Bony himself.
Well he wouldn't have scored if his shot hadn't taken a deflection which ballooned it over the keeper. Now Michu and JDG - they were true strikes.
This thread is now possibly the most left field non sensical one on the board right now, especially after Bony has been man handling the entire Valencia defence all night and murdering defenders from the 1st to the 90 min ! .. Oh yeah, and he scored ...again !! 5/8 ?? should of course be 6 in 8 after having a perfectly good goal dis allowed in Malmo
The amount of chances we are creating I wouldn't be surprised if Bony and Michu ended up with close to 20 goals apiece this season. They are lethal with their chances
