..... not to be beastly to our neighbours so here is a new thread.

We have all been to great games and consider them so because of the joy, the excitement or the occasion but what I want to know is in pure footballing terms what was the game you watched in awe because of the pure footballing and individual genius you witnessed?

For me it has to be a game against QPR when Dave Sexton was their manager. They had a side that was just full of great footballers like Leighton James, Phil Parkes, Gerry Francis, Stan Bowles, Martin Dobson and Dave Thomas.

It was in the 1973/4 season and the score was two all but the football was sublime.

Channon scored the best goal I think I ever saw from him in that he was running in from the left and Paine hit a ball that curled over Channon’s left shoulder and dropped into his path and he hit it on the volley to score the equaliser.

Shear brilliance.

More recently Blackpool in the FA Cup-faultless. Will have to think about games years ago.

I prefer it when you are being beastly to our neighbours Godders.

A few in contention -as far as saints concerned seeing them dominate and play so well in a wembly final for the jpt -the whole atmosphere and occassion was overwhelming. Also seeing saints beating the spuds 4-0 in an fa cup game in 2003 - a superb performance from every saints player.

other games i saw Gillingham 8-1 against southend in 1987 and their next home game beat chesterfield 10-0. very unexpected

Premier relegation battle v Norwich few years back when Camera scored last minuete winner in a 4 3 win all in vain eventually but for sheer drama and atmosphere it was incredible st marys was rocking at final whistle.Saints played great football that day under pressure and the quality of goals from us with Crouch LeSaux and Camera were top drawer that day in a game that ebbed and flowed end to end

Saints - would have to be 8-2 win at the Dell against Coventry, or the 5-1 FA Cup quarter final replay against Sheffield weds. both 1984 I think.

Non saints would be Liverpool v forest in about 87/88 when forest were their nearest challengers and Liverpool beat them 5-0 at anfield; could have been 10.

At the dell against Wolves.......don't ask me what bloody year.......We won 9-3.....Terrific game. 90 minutes of sheer unadulterated football from end to end. The papers in the write up said but for the display of goalkeeping by the wolves keeper, which strangely was true and could have easily been double that. Less than a month later we bought the goalkeeper.

Bally's first home game in charge against Liverpool at The Dell, it was an evening game and snowing which already made it pretty magical but Le Tiss was just sublime that night...I lost my shoe on the Milton terrace from a surge after his first goal....I had one freezing foot for the rest of the game but seeing the genius Le God rip Mark Wright a new one all night more than made up for it. Unbelievable atmosphere too.
