Frankly disappointed that Godders would holiday in a hotel that accepted the carry on. I tend to holiday in hotels were jackets at meal time are obligatory, that would abate the nonsense.
I would suggest to St.G that Crete may be an island but it's easily big enough to avoid those British tourists you've highlighted. The ones in the plane are unfortunate. Perhaps next time you'll travel at a time of the year when most Brits are back at work..? If I holiday overseas, I tend to go early or late in the season, because, 1] it's cheaper, 2] you're not sharing the place with billions of other tourists because they think it's going to be too cold, and 3] I research my destination to keep well away from the crowds. Maybe it's just me, but I never see these people you describe. Oh, I lie. I once saw one or two drunken British yobs coming out of the red light district of Amsterdam in an early March, some when in the late 1980's. Have to say, that's about it though. You'll appreciate, I don't go looking for said people in the first place, so I don't tend to encounter them. Hope you enjoyed you holiday, at least.
Welcome back Godders - always good to read your perspective on life, the universe and everything else. Brits abroad is, invariably, uncomfortable. My wife and I were eating at the Madinat last night and ate a delightful Persian meal and were waiting for a taxi to take us home. There were some holiday-makers who were a little confused where to stand to get the taxi which was fine - finally sorted out and we waited patiently to our turn. When our turn arrived - who should stagger out onto the road in front of us - the self assured middle aged 'lad', dragging on his cigarette and dressed in oh-so-cool black - out on the tiles too early and now paying the price and looking at him you knew he was a Brit. As soon as he opened his gob (to use the term mouth is an affront to humanity) my worst fears were confirmed. Thankfully he was ushered off the road and onto the kerbside - but it did not stop him scowling my wife and I because he thought we had 'taken' his cab. You've not missed alot - other than lots of speculation and nothing else really. Kit is awful as has been mentioned by many (dare I write most!).
The USA is an amazing place to see and I'll be going lots more times. Florida is the last state I'd visit though.
This 100%. The Grand Canyon is the most amazing place I've ever visited. I'm hoping to travel around the States next summer.
Only kidding..! Don't rush to defend. I find stupid people just... stupid. That's the same the World over, but I must admit that certain people in the USA have a special talent for it.
When I was 15 I spent 3 months in Colorado, absolutely loved it and would move there tomorrow if the Yanks would have me.
No, but I've been to the original Italian version. Nothing against Florida, but I reckon all the other states have more cool stuff to see.
and I wish him well. You may be interested to know that the Queen (God Bless Her) has put Balmoral Castle on the market as she says following Scottish independence she will have no reason to grovel to the Scots and have her arse frozen every bloody time she has to stay there. I've never understood why anyone would want to travel further north than Oxford myself.
