Students staying is good though, surely? Young and skilled is what we want. Generally a low burden on public services and paying relatively high taxes.

Yes - but those pensioners with their own homes will want their kids to inherit them.
Inheritance tax is already huge (the threshold is £325k so many people find they have to pay it on granny’s modest 3-bed semi) it it would rocket under Labour.
    Crikey I sound like a Tory <yikes>
I’m not, but I understand why some people in certain circumstances would find them attractive - or should I say less **** than the other options!!!

As a labour voter, can you explain to us non labourites , why every handover from a labour to a tory .gov has a massive amount of debt. Last time was by far the worst, as not only did they borrow £trn's, the "famous black hole and note left for the incoming Tory treasury minister! " but sold off our gold and wasted the best year s of oil revenue taxation!

    I’m more anti-Tory than pro-Labour but I’ll give it a go.

The note thing was a joke. The Tories did something similar when they left once. The note has been milked by the Tories relentlessly since.

Debt has gone up considerably in the last thirteen years as has the servicing of it. Under Blair it was relatively low and saw a large increase during the global crash, which Brown was widely praised for his handling of, as he was for much of his work as Chancellor. The gold thing was obviously an error but one that’s easier to point to with hindsight. There have been less excusable wastes of our money and blatant corruption in the last decade. Inflation obviously has a lot to do with the BOE as well as government policy but it was generally low under Labour unlike before them and in recent years.

Not that Labour of old or now are perfect but the Tories being sound with the economy is a complete myth. We also had improved living standards under Labour for the least well off which along with life expectancy is now reversing.

Whatever your political leaning I will almost guarantee that nothing will improve under a Labour government because they are basically social democrats like the Tories
They are all pro big state and high tax
The will all ignore the lazy 2.5m who won’t work and claim every benefit
Time to get tough with these wasters

There’s about 1.1m vacancies in the UK.

Of people who are economically inactive, there are students, carers, housewives (or husbands), people who have enough money to be economically inactive etc.

Obviously there are people who are long term sick or long term unemployed. I’m sure some are taking the piss but I really doubt it’s a high proportion so we aren’t left with many wasters.

ah but in this case the note [ not a joke ] referred to a massive debt with no room to manouvre financially without serious repercussions on the people of UK .... HENCE austerity, And a very good job the tories held their nerve in the face of the continual lambasting by a corbyn led "no idea what to do opposition!" [ and still much of the same under KS!

Yeah that worked out really well for us all and fortunately the economy is now in great shape as a result.

I think you need to go back to the start of Bliars TERM OF OFFICE to get the REAL picture .. until the ship was lost and Bliar deserted the sinking ship and handed it over to Brown. As for debt the tories wiped out the labour blackhole just in time for COVID, AND STILL DIDNT/ HASNT borrowed as much as Bliar, or had the same income from gold or the rich oil tax on some of our low sulphur oil.........

When Blair took over debt was around 35% of GDP and prior to the crash it was similar (it dipped a bit in between). It then jumped to 50%-ish and was around 70% when the coalition took over. It’s now pushing 100%. Pre-Covid it was in the 80s.

    But yeah, Bliar, Iraq etc.

Sorry load of tosh , improved living standards were on borrowed money selling our gold reserves and then having no under lying fabric to keep it up. Bit like borrowing £100k and going on holiday, new car, spending £x on the kids for christmas and birthdays dining and wining at posh restuarant a couple time a week etc etc... then getting a letter from the bank....... your skint great having had the money to make the repayments from the dwindling deposit account now the time of reckoning ..... and last I heard life expectancy was increasing and pension age having to follow it up...

We’re now more skint with less to show for it. I’d love to know where the money has gone given our high taxes, poor public services and high debt. Mrs Sunak seems to be profiting handsomely at least from all of it.

Life expectancy is seeing a slight decline, generally driven by poverty given the large differences between poor and rich areas.

in those figures is people who do not wish to work / wont work on benefits and lead a life of snacking and irregular mealtimes... also delve deeper and go into the charts and tables as to who is not living longer...... over 1 million jobs available ... poverty... then get a job or organise your life properly... take a leaf out of Bristol's mayor and you will see what I mean .. the bigger picture means more than a small snapshot

I doubt there’s data for how many JSA claimants die each year. People who are sick probably die quite frequently given they’re sick but then if they’re sick enough to die they probably aren’t skiving.

If you have data on this I’d be interested to see it. Without it it comes across as a bit of a non-sensical rant.

Plenty of people work full-time and are struggling. 40 hours on minimum wage isn’t going to get you much once rent and basic food is paid for. Foodbank users generally aren’t doing so for a laugh.

Really, you dont seem to be able to grasp anything... nothing like a rant, are you to lazy to research things properly?

I’ve shown some research unlike you. As I said, if the data exists then I’d like to see it. I don’t think it does exist.

That’s a city the size of Leicester every YEAR.
Is that the figure after migration OUT of the UK has been taken into consideration though?
