ideally yeah loan them out but you have to get rid if you don't think they will make the grade we held on to Bowditch for far too long hoping he would come good.
because IMHO Rhodes was only sold because Keane thought Wickham was the better prospect and did'nt want to have 2 young strikers at the club which i think was wrong Rhodes should of stayed and Wickham should of gone on loan for a while. But thats just my opinion.
No argument from me WCP, in an ideal world we would have gambled and kept both, but that is neither here nor there..! Just one opinion I would like to throw in at this point of the season, Cressy for the last 2-3 games is starting to look a little tired, maybe in need of a week or two's break, agaain reason enough for me to have kept the likes of Hyam & Oconnor a little closer to the 1st team squad, would be interesting to see if anyone else has noticed this..?
I have to say I can see both sides of the argument here. I for one would love to see the youngsters in our team but I'm not going to criticise Jewell on this front yet as I'm leaning towards your point of view Weighty, I'm not sure now is the right time to introduce some of those youngster to the team, I think we can save that judgement for a bit further down the line (if he's still here) when things are a bit more settled at the club and we start to have a good base of a team. I think he will introduce them when he thinks the time is right. To me I think he has dealt with Martin and Carson well, he punished them, didn't hold a grudge and they are now getting back into the 1st team looking all the better for it. Keane gave people chances but unfortunately he held grudges and players like garvan if they made one mistake were banished and never seen again. Under Keane often the youngsters were'nt introduced I don't think because he wanted youngsters to be in the team but often because he didn't like a senior pro so would do anything not to pick them. I also have a feeling that it was slightly in protest toward ME and Clegg in the 2nd season because they did not give him the funds to spend and said at the time we've decided as a plan for the club to concentrate on the youngster, clearly that plan has not been adhered to, so I wonder how much that was just him fabricating something. But tbh he did put a few of the youngster in even if they looked scared out of their wits!! With Hyam I thought he was decent but never saw anything from him to say that he was going to go on a be a championship standard player, he doesn't stand out as much as say the Garvan's, Bowditch's and Wickham's of this world, although I would like to be proved wrong and in all honesty haven't seen to much of him to make a judgement. In terms of O'Conner I was impressed when I saw him but I have a feeling that he was a Keane friend and perhaps is now not so interested in being part of the Ipswich setup, because I find it strange how he was frozen out of the situation completely. At the same time perhaps Jewell see's that we have Cresswell and Carson on that side, with Whight also coming through, so he may not fit into that side.
Weighty - the whole point you're missing is that once you have a talented prospect it's the FOOTBALL CLUB'S job to get them motivated, improve their skills, build on that promise. If NONE of our youngsters are doing that it's the FOOTBALL CLUB's fault. However, it's pretty clear that that is NOT the case because Luke Hyam in particular was more than ready for the first team. I have not seen him in training, I've seen him in competitive football matches! Ditto for Josh Carson, ditto for Shane O'Connor. If NONE of them are getting close to the first team, if NONE of them are motivated or putting the work in, as you seem to suggest, then we need to sack the entire coaching staff including Paul Jewell, close down the entire youth set up and go and support Colchester United or Norwich City! If Josh Carson was misbehaving on the back of his incredible start last season then that is down to bad man management from Paul Jewell and he hasn't been half the player this season!
Surely Hamps and Weighty its a bit of both? Clearly its not quite as black and white as you say!! Hamps I get your point but your being a tad cynical and harsh!!
I'm not. I think our best chance of having a top keeper, a top striker - let's face it, a top keeper or striker will not sign for Ipswich Town - is to work our arses off to bring through.. oh wait, we did and we sold him to Sunderland
Indeed it would be good to bring through some good talent through, I think everyone is agreed on that, and it should be an avenue which we walk toward, noone is disputing that. But what you say about football clubs getting players motivated, of course they have a part to play but at the end of the day the its the individual who has to motivate themselves. So do you think Royle and his coaching staff should have been sacked for not gettin the best out of Bowditch?? I have no problem with the club selling Wickham, its dissapointing but we got good money at the end of the day for raw talent, I can understand why we did it. Rhodes on the other hand.....well don't get me started. But appart from that none of the youngsters we have on our books who people are saying should be in the team are attracting interest from top teams, of course this doesn't mean they're not very good but most of them its hard enough to find a club to loan them to!! I think eventually when things have settled down, if good enough(thats a crucial point) they will be in the team.
Jesus I didn't realise the terrible run we went on had corrupted brain cells! PTC obviously you can't say that if it's an individual. Dean Bowditch was plop. There will always be one or two who don't seize the opportunity. But if several players who we already know are talented and of a certain level drop off the radar - and if the entire youthful payroll are not getting a shout then it's obviously not down to the players themselves.
The Bowditch comparison here is a little unfair on the lad, yes he did not make it with us but over the last couple of seasons has been one of Yoevil's leading scorer, since moving to MK Dons this season he has already netted 5 league goals from 15 apps. He for me is having a very decent proffesional career, at the right level..! This whole debate is about the issue of our young players been sold off, got rid off as it seems to be the case under PJ for less than IMO they are worth..(KW aside) Most of them at this time are not even getting a fair crack of the whip. We seem content on bringing in older more expensive players to then play them out of position, I for one would have thought that a combination of Oconnor & Cressy on our left should have been looked at by now. The same with Hyam why we have not used him in front of our back four this season escapes me, we put Bullard there, then his form suffers..! Collins has gone, Andrews is on his way, Stockdale to never return, so it starts all over again in january, because we have overlooked young talent we have already we will be looking to bring in at least 3-4 new additions (LOANS), it just does not make any sense to me.
Perhaps if you wrote your posts in a way that made sense to us on planet earth, we could understand what point your trying to make!! Sorry for pointing out the obvious but reading your posts, sometimes I feel in needs to be done!! Just look at your arguments, do they actually make any sense and follow on from the previous points I think not!! Its not a black and white argument like you make it out to be!! Between you and JWM we wouldn't have a club left by the end of it, you'd sack everyone, I dare say once everyone had been sacked you would only have the supporters of the club left and I'm sure eventually you'd be calling for them to get the sack!! Who exactly are you talking about when you say players have dropped off the radar?? The only youth talent who has dropped off the radar atm is Hyam, and he was decent but was he really a proven talented player, he didn't exactly set the world alight and who knows he may get his chance eventually!! Wickham would have been in the team if he weren't sold, Carson is starting to get into the team again after a poor summer, lets not forgot it was PJ who gave him his chance in the first place. Apparently we have Whight and Lawrence coming through, who Jewell wants to be putting in the first team by the end of the season. This argument always comes up and it always has done whatever manager we have in charge. Our academy still appears to be producing some decent talent but whether some of these are currently good enough to get into our team or this is the right time to put them into our team is questionable. I'll be with you criticising Jewell if in the future we don't have some of these young players coming through into the team and they look like they are good enough but for the minute I reserve my judgement. I think he's taken the right approach so far, he first put Carson in the team when he first got here and he stepped up to the plate, if PJ's judgement then says he come back after summer in poor shape, then yes its good he should go away and get back into shape and work hard in training and now he's starting to get involved again. Same with Martin, he's come back after being told to go away and work hard in training and looks all the better for it. Cresswell was brought in to be for the future and was only going to play a bit part role this season but he stepped up to the plate and has been rewarded with a regular first team spot and a new contract!! 1 thing I do think is a crying shame is Klug is no longer with us!! Keane is such a t**t, what is he actually on, just read about his criticisms of Ferguson today, every decision and opinion he gives is taken with a massive chip on his shoulder and perhaps why he will never make it as a manager, his anger and bitterness(like many on here) cloud his judgement!!!
Just because a player is not getting first team football does not mean they are not motivated or are not being motivated it could be down to talent and i think a player needs to earn the right to play on a saturday not just be handed it, if this was the case i should get a few games just to see if i'm good enough.
Round and round in circles we go! If JWM and myself had been running the club for the length of time Marcus Evans has then we'd be Champion's League winners by now! Klug would still be bringing youngsters through, John Wark himself would be in the dugout with Villas-Boas and Paul Lambert would have been poached to coach our under-10s!
FFS Both Town and Col U have said the story is rubbish. Why get annoyed by a transfer rumour?? I feel sorry for youngsters at all clubs. The squads these days are so large, the pressure on the clubs to succeed is massive and the quality of reserve team football is non existant. Of course its not just youngsters that suffer but they are the ones that need to prove that they can play in order to either get into the team or earn a move away. Older, more experienced players will still have this problem but at least they may have a reputation to fall back on and help engineer a move away. If we cant give them games then they should be loaned out. I would love to see a town youngster in the starting line up but the idea of the game is not charity, its winning, climbing the leagues and the money this brings. Ultimately not one of you would turn round and say they would prefere a starting 11 made up of our youth playing in the championship over a team of 40 year olds holding their own in the premier league. We want success based on our support of the club but some seem to think its a vendetta by Jewell to ignore our younger players. You seem to forget that he wants success as much as we do and will always pick what he thinks is the best 11. He may want success for different reasons than us, mainly to be paid and probably get a nice bonus if we did go up, but whatever the reasons its not due to some dodgy hidden agenda. Personally I disagree with aspects of his first team. I dont rate Murphy and JET seems lazy (NOTE - A young player) but I dont think that Jewell picks them to annoy me but because he thinks, based on what he sees everyday that they are worthy of the place.
