Well there were quite a lot of "proper" fans who were wishing us out of the Europa not too long ago. In fact a lot were in favour of playing a reserve team pre 1st leg.
That was when we were under-performing in the League and looked like we couldn't cope with more than one competition.
A proper fan wouldn't think that Does a proper fan become grateful a manager gets sacked, or does he back him through thick and thin like they back the club. Does a proper fan try to claim another fan is not a proper fan, or does he realise that all fans have their own way of being a proper fan. Does a proper fan really care who is a proper fan, or does he just get on with it.
I believe the choice between trying to be competitive in 2 or 3 comps was an easy choice for the sides Monk played. ok prem league survival was #1, the choice was then made between the FA Cup or the Europa League, Monk chose the Europa League which is his call. Personally I think with my heart we will beat Napoli my head says we will not which tbh is not a bad thing. I do hope we win however if we lose we will have just one competition to concentrate on and that is a good scenario.
I wish it was a simple as this, but everything, EVERYTHING at a football club is transient except the fans. The manager may go, the form my dip, we get relegated and promoted and star players come and go. Behaviour and form is temporary and should be judged at the time of it's happening, but to say you should blindly follow them because that's what you should do is like saying I should like all of Metallica's albums because Metallica made them! First four were great, everything else is ****. Still like Metallica, though. I like Swansea City because that's my team. I sing at the games. I don't boo when it's going badly (don't like that at all). I have judged Laudrup by my standards and by the rumours that make sense by being borne out in what we see on the pitch and I feel it was the right decision. You won't see me quoting game statistics and win rates because I went to the games at the Liberty and I judged or myself that the team lacked motivation. Will Monk do a better job? Jury is out, but the last three games have been a significant improvement.
It ain't proper to put out a line up like we did for the FA Cup game against Everton , you can analyze all ya want imo .
I agree, my post was in response to Jack coming out with that tripe about not being a real fan if you have to mention what roofjack did. It was a nothing comment from roof, that most fans are aware of. It is still to be determined whether the sacking was right or not, of course to you it may be a just action, to me it is not, hence why I have a different view point of Jack as in what makes a proper fan. Neither are right, neither are wrong, they are just two different opinions on the matter. Hence my tongue in cheek post, that no proper fan would want us out of the Europa league, due to us under-performing, as other than a bit of commitment issues on the pitch, the results were just fine, and even those in the "Laudrup camp" have admitted that performances haven't been right, but yet those in the "pro sacking" have not accepted how the fixtures for us were shockingly bad, or that we had a **** load of injuries, so things like that will go against us as a team. Monk hasn't been in charge for long, yet we have done no better, yet people are singing his praises, why, because of performances. Does it not smack of a bit of nativity to you? Will these same fans still be singing his praises if we play super for the rest of the season, and still go down? After all, ML could have continued with poor performances and still kept us up, what is more important, survival, which stats of this season help to show that we may have done more than enough to survive, or performances?
I couldn't care less what jack uzi says about me , I like uzi and enjoy his posts no matter what . He called me a liar and an idiot last week but you don't see me running to the mods looking for a apology or deleting posts .
Honestly? Performances for me, I know that's a stupid thing to say, but I'd rather get relegated playing nice stuff than stay up year in-year out playing like Stoke, or someone. With a busy worklife and the fact the wife hates football, the time I manage to create for myself to watch a game means I'd like it to be enjoyable. And although we lost against Liverpool I enjoyed every second of the game. We also lost against West Ham, but I could have blown my brains out after watching that.... I know this probably makes me technically a plastic, and so be it, but I've always wanted to see my Swans play good, enjoyable football over the course of the last 25 years.
Don't agree with your post norfork but certainly understand and repsect your view. After all it is entertainment money your spending.
Fair play roof. I think my attitude has changed a bit over the last year or so, as I finally feel the club is on such a good footing now financially and development wise, I (perhaps short-sightedly) don't fear the financial abyss of relegation quite as much, and just want to enjoy the games.
Could be a post of the week uzi lol . Not going to go looking , the point being you insulted me and I don't really care. Dai , mildly insults someone , the house comes down on him when the poster runs to the mods . The mods have enough to do , let the little things slide and get on with it.
Problem is Nofolk, if we go down we will immediately lose a third off our gate, we don't have the draw for players or sponser's. It puts the club under threat if we still have to pay premiership wages (I hope Huw has put something in the contracts). Personally I thoroughly enjoyed the championship but the Prem is much better. Best times I have had have been reaching this promised land, doing well, winning our first major trophy and doing well in Europe. I can understand people enjoying faster more attacking football, but at the end of the day its a professional, results driven business, in that winning is everything, it is the only thing. I hope Garry Monk ill be a success, but its a huge call from Huw Jenkins and I hope he has got it right. One thing is for sure the way Laudrup was sacked was wrong and the team put out against Everton was a disgrace. It was shabby from Huw Jenkins whatever spin is being put on it.
A lot of good will be done with money from the years in the premier gendros , and plus we get the airborne payments . I hope we stay up forever but will be confortable back in the Championship if push comes to shove . The way I see Norforks post is no matter what , if we play our smooth style , good things will happen like it has these last half dozen seasons . Hard to argue with really , plus it's more pleasing to the eye in entertaiment value
True dat. I think that's the one point both sides can probably agree on. Personally I don't think ML had it in him to turn us around (in terms of morale & spirit) so a change was needed, however, we'll never know either way, so may as well get on with it
Our game has without doubt gone back to being entertaining thank goodness, and I hope Monk does well he deserves the chance, and our board and Huw Jenkins have done very well these last 12 years, I think that we are now focused on survival in the Premier league. We can then regroup and rebuild in the summer whether that be under Monk or whoever.
Entertaining ..... shipping goals and losing .... when you're watching the likes of Doncaster next season I hope you remember how cool entertaining was.
