This is a storm never the like before and should not be treated like a so called normal hurricane.....Get underground is the best option and if you cant do that find a brick built building and find the smallest room or closet you can find and get in there and pray....The smaller the room the safer you are...
Phil, as the eye moves over land it loses its power significantly. Can't they travel further north for a day or two?
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/09/07/us/hurricane-irma-florida-latest/index.html Phil, keep an eye on Hurricane Jose. It's now a category 2 storm.
As I said we got a Thomas Cook flight out of Orlando for Saturday for the boys, I'm just hoping that the airport doesn't get closed down on or before their flight out, which would mean the only other option is to evacuate, and head North to Georgia, but I' m not sure if even that state is safe, they are attempting to get information on hurricane shelters as a final backup, at the minute I'm researching what buildings are the safest in a hurricane. Thomas Cook have a help line, but at the minute it's hopeless.
That is what they will do if Orlando airport is shut down before Saturday, but I am hoping that they will make the flight out. I am waiting for Orlando airport to get back to me regarding plans to shut down.
I've been to the keys and your right Dai, it's flat and if they have the predicted storm surge, it will wash from one side of the key to the other. In places I bet it's only 100m wide, do the road will be washed away.
Bad news, the Orlando Airport is shutting down at 5pm Saturday, two hours before their flight, cannot believe this is happening, looks like either train to Atlanta city or drive to Jacksonville airport, bloody nightmare this is............
They'll be alright in Orlando anyway as it's going to miss the full brunt of it according to the latest reports
http://www.express.co.uk/news/weath...path-update-Orlando-Miami-USA-hurricane-track The local press are suggesting that those from the Keys etc should seek to stay in Orlando mate http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/weather/hurricane/fl-reg-hurricane-irma-leaving-20170907-story.html The report also suggests that the roads could be more dangerous due to the congestion etc Im sure they'll be safe and well once it passes mate
I thought that would happen to be honest, I lived in Jacksonville for a while and i would not put much hope in the airport being open there.....I would stay put and wait it out myself....
Phill tell them to get advice asap..... Check out @OrlandoIsJuice’s Tweet: I dont think you can read the comments on the tweet but the replies are get out.
