No doubt he'll have people in his ear telling him what he should do but I wouldn't have thought the club would accept a year contract. It would mean us paying more wages for him and whatever medical bills he'll need then he could walk away for nothing, at least we'll be getting some kind of compensation if he does sign for someone else now
Getting held to ransom by Denver ****ing Hume man. Got to be one of the low points in the clubs history.
Surely he must have some sort of offer from somewhere or has another player been f*cked up by his agent.
he is not going to get another club atm, he is injured and it is not yet known if he has 'cured' his problem or if it will keep coming back therefore no one will take a mad punt on him, they will want players to hit the ground running...i have no dislike for the lad and i firmly believe with the right bit of coaching he could become a very valuable player (thinking of the cost to replace a defender/wing back/winger, obviously this is after he learns to defend better) he already does a decent job along the wing but we can all see he needs to up his defending side. i honestly dont know if the club is really that bothered about a little compen, i doubt it will be a bank breaker...especially after allowing several other players to run contracts down unless they honestly saw a future with him which in my humble opinion shows we have faith in him and he should sign up.
Dont get all the get rid comments at all. Last season people were saying he was the next saviour, albeit perhaps because McFadzean was playing. Hume for me is a good option in the squad, and will save trying to find another to bed in. He looks a player with the raw attributes to succeed, pace and technically decent. A goad coach will make him better defending 1 on 1 easily, and I dont subscribe to the view he isnt decent already. He is injury prone but I would like to think part of our off field investment is in injury prevention and recovery. Sometimes players dont sign when we want them to. Maybe we have stalled a bit to avoid wages on someone injured. There could be any number of reasons it has taken so long to get here. If he signs then it will be another step in a positive direction for me and make us stronger
We're not though are we. We have made our best offer. He has declined. Hardly got a gun to KLD's head.
You sound like your patience is holding up slightly better than mine but I do agree with you. Also agree about him being a good player and I looked up his record a bit ago after seeing him freely labelled as injury prone, he's played a hell of a lot of games for us for someone with that tag. 38 apps in 19/20 and 24 in 20/21. I've seen worse records.
Don’t know if it’s already been mentioned and I know nowt about these things, but if he’s out of contract but has a contract offered, do the club still have to pay him based on his old contract or does he get nowt until he signs the offered contract?
A bit more on Hume this morning... https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...denver-hume-and-his-defensive-options-3344484 'inverted fullbacks' are an option he is considering as well.
What makes you think we are being held to ransom? The club have been clear - there is an offer on the table and there won't be another one. It's in their interests to get him fit because if he's leaving, the sooner he is fit, the sooner we get compensation
Don't think there is any obligation to pay him. Maybe some sort of week to week agreement based on old contract or some PFA-minimum wage. The fact we are treating him for his injury would suggest there is some sort of informal treatment but I hope he's on nowt but expenses. Lad seems to think he is Roberto Carlos
It expired on 30 June so, in theory if that is correct, he would have only been payed up to end of July. And nothing for so far in August. He is in a very dodgy position imo. No income, injured and out of contract with, seemingly, no whispers of interested clubs other than our offer(s) which have been knocked back.
He’s quite happy to sit around and have his medical treatment to get him fit but doesn’t care one jot about the position he’s putting the club into, not long till the window closes and we need a 2nd left back in. We need to decide now wether to get someone in and forget about him. I personally think there’ll be better out there
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...e-johnson-outlines-sunderlands-squad-21298142 This pretty much confirms all of them debates i had at the beginning of this thread last month is true. Hume had and still is effecting our recruitment drive for next season because up until yesterday we've been unsure whether we need 2 full backs or 1 (3 or 2 before Cirkin signed). Its also now been revealed he wants more money than what he's actually worth, so he's chose greed over loyalty to the club thats supported him since a 10 year old and nursed him through an injury hit campaign last year where he never even contributed hardlys. Thats all well and good if he wants to be a deluded tw@t and think he can do better than us, but he should have done the decent thing ages ago and said, if thats all your prepared to offer then im off, and done us all a favour. We wouldn't be 2 weeks away from the window closing to find a replacement
