Hi everyone
Please sign and distribute to people you know. This is a friend of mine. And she’s a cracking lass.

The Humber bridge has been a hotspot for suicide, this problem appears to be increasing, we need to as a community take action to prevent another family losing a loved one in this tragic way, there has been numerous ways suggested to make the bridge safer but I propose locked gates, this would be set between the hours of 22:00-06:00 to reduce the impulsiveness, it is evidenced that people in distress will act upon their thoughts late at night as they are less likely to be stopped, I realise there will be opposition to this but people who genuinely need to access the bridge late at night could apply for a pass this would reduce those acting on impulse. In the last 5 weeks there has been 5 suicides with further non successful attempts, this in my opinion is 5 too many. We need to act to stop this happening, we as a community have a responsibility to keep our loved ones and those in distress safe.

Over this last weekend my sons girlfriend died by suicide on the bridge, this has devastated her family, my family and all of her friends, she had the rest of her life to live, she was greatly loved and this may not have occurred if she did not have access to the bridge late at night.

I hope that people can sign this petition to make this change.

Done. Sorry for your loss Chazz

Many people are in places they never expected, and this tragically seems to them to be their only way out....

I'd heard through a colleague the girls name, as she knew a friend of my son.

Done. I grew up watching it being built out of our front upstairs window. It was, and is, a magnificent engineering achievement. However I’m humbled to support a move to protect everyone from an unfortunate and very sad negative aspect, so I am sincerely hoping this petition can be a positive.

Done.

Very upsetting and some action needs to be taken.

Gates seem a more practical measure than many other suggestions such as barriers or netting.

RIP to all 200 people who have ended their lives on the bridge.

Yes,action needs to be taken.

Has anyone thought of pushing this further with local media or Members of Parliament in the local area?

The more people that become involved in this, the more interest it generates.

Let's put our heads together here, there are some intelligent individuals posting on our forum, perhaps some are influential in some way? Let's not watch this thread drifting into page 15 and forgotten about..

Let's get some MP' s email addresses posted and let's start pushing!!!
