Saw this tested on channel 4 actually last week. They took two black polo tshirts and blind tested them on the public as to which they liked best. One was George from Asda and the other was Ralph Lauren. The Asda polo had better feedback and was preferred - it was also made up of better material when they looked at them. That said, I have the Ralph Lauren polo in my wardrobe, not the Asda one. Aren't we fickle?
Precisely this. Ive been in various TK maxx when they've been like a ****ing gypsies jumble sale and other times when they've been absolutely rammed with genuine high-end items. You just have to go with the mindset that you might be wasting your time that occasion.
Until they wash the Asda polo. I only buy RL Polos because they just work. Last miles longer than any other polo shirt - shape retention after washing is also good, some are surprisingly poor!
I've had two black Lyle and Scott polos which both lost colour after first wash (as did the coat). Only brand to have done that to me.
Totally. Ive had loads of expensive ones that have gone massively misshapen, whereas mid-range ones like Ted Baker and A&F keep their shape brilliantly.
If anyone does want a bit of Merino action, HoF currently have 18 colours and they're half price (£25)... http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Linea Machine Washable Merino V Neck Jumper/D468260,default,pd.html
Lonsdale and Hugo Boss. Cant be beaten. Name's great. Reality they're ****. ****ing shrink, always. Nigel Hall jumper in TKMaxx for 40 quid this morning. Lacoste's gone down the pan anarl. TKMaxx has a Ralph Lauren bomber type jacket for £104 reduced from £140. Very smart. I wouldnt let the lad get it
Ive got a couple of those and they're good value for money ,, i got one for a tenner. On the other hand ive got a Ralph L cable knit type jumper and its ****e and loses shape
Got to have merino, or at least merino mix, for your standard wool jumpers...anything else is school jumper territory I have a few Smedleys, but actually prefer a Nigel Hall cardigan for quality, I also have a Penguin merino mix though and that has lasted forever For the chunky end I had a few Nicole Farhi ones which were nice, zip up cardigan particularly For warmth I have a Paul & Shark cardigan that is incredible...in fact it hasn't been cold enough yet this year to wear it! ( I think I paid about £80 for it, but it was reduced from £230 odd!)
Ah but you forget the classic football clothes ah. But you're forgetting the classic football clothing conundrum. You could wear a cardigan for warmth, but if it rains it's no good. Whereas if you wear the cardigan under a jacket it needs to be at the correct 'pub warmth without jacket ' level while still not being too warm to wear under the jacket It's a bloody mine field
