Fair point, you'd like to think HCC are working closely with other agencies to sort these types of issues out.

This is part of the problem but on occasion like this for 2017, **** whose responsibility it is and HCC should just take it on themselves.

ERYCC spend £45k a year collecting litter on the A63 and they're not at all happy about it, apparently the most common item they collect is bottles of piss thrown out by lorry drivers. Dirty bastards.

The Ferriby/Melton section was due to be done last/this weekend.

They do, they have regular meetings with the bodies concerned. The list of groups are mentioned are a summary, there are a lot of other parties that have a responsibility. The stuff in that gets into the news is generally just the soundbites rather than being robust or complete. Other bits don't even make the news.

It's an on going problem as, like any multi group issue, there are alsorts of complications, political, legal etc. As an example of how something that looks simple can be more complex than it really should be, I queried the cars parking on the verges on Castle Street, and the issue of who enforces it was far from simple.

They can't, not without legal action. Plus, why should they fund it? The bulk of it isn't anything to do with Hull CC, they just get tarred with other peoples muck. (See what I did there?)

A lot of the land to the south is ABP or ERYC and the road is HA's.

It's another example of Hull CC getting the blame for other peoples ills, when in fact they're the frustrated victims.

I didnt blame them. I used to work on related elements for Hull City Council and know whose responsibility this is. The point I was making is this is a one-off and HCC are the ones with a vested interest in this being done.

And I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure legal action isnt required for a litter pick.

It is required if it's on someone elses land and without their permission. It's theft otherwise, no matter what you're taking. I think it would also mask a wider problem.

Having said that, I'm aware that there are moves to do that, but there are a bundle of logistical problems too, including the issue of having people alongside a busy trunk road or gaining access to some of the areas.

It certainly wouldn't be a cheap action.

if the fountains are gonna be llike Queens Gardens, they are gonna be full of stagnant, smelly water - on a hot, blustery day, the smell of stagnant water will be blowing across the square.
Peoople will not want to walk into the mists of foul smelling water....... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT HCC!

The nose of a bloodhound, Did it occur to you Patty , that any stench at QG is a result of the mix of plantlife, fish & bird excrement , coupled with the water has no where to go (stagnant). There are water features in many public squares in the world and are very exciting to most.

The Highways Agency are responsible for the maintenance of the roads, but not the litter, that's down to local authorities.

ERYCC close a lane to clear the litter, I would assume the HCC do the same, no doubt it's not cheap to do.

Maybe OB should drive up and down nicking the lorry drivers who throw out bottles of piss, rather than sitting around in South Cave nicking people for doing 34 in a 30.

When the wind is blowing right, you can smell the water from this fountain, and there arent any rotten plants in here.

ALL I can do is go on past ventures undertaken by HCC.
They tend to do things on the cheap.

Look child, don't get at me.
I'm just stating that their track record on running of fountains is on the cheap side.
    smelly stagnant water.

HIghways Agency also have a repsonsibility for deposits on their road, as well as activities as a result of their road. The amount that's down to HCC is probably minimal. A lot of the litter is on land adjacent to the road, some of which would need additional work to get to.

    OK we'll see.

Also the Kosovans from West Hul/Chavs from Bransholme* will find a way to cause mischief with them/break them/vandalise them*
    * delete as applicable.
Im not saying we shouldn't have 'em.
I am just saying that I will be very surprised if they are left as a lasting legacy.
it's about time that some money was pumped into our City.
... maybe we will finally get the investment we deserve - it's just a shame that it takes a once in a lifetime event to secure funding... MIND YOU, with central government making cuts left, right and centre, who else wonders where the extra funding is coming from?
