Should be clear that they didn't miss the penalty either as the headline says - it was saved. Claiming it was missed rather takes the focus away from Hamer's geat effort.
On a parr with Sarrs goal last season And I remember a goal from Ian Bolton against a team managed by Emlyn Hughes from the same sort of distance in the 1980's that won the game and Hughes cried a river for weeks afterwards. I think that finally convinced all the half wit football writers that Watford were a long ball team that relied purely on luck to score goals ****wits
I've got that Bolton goal at Rotherham on video - mainly because I can be seen on the terracing behind the goal celebrating like an idiot.
Two former players meeting up at the Hull game yesterday. The taller of the two I recognized straight away, but the shorter one made me think a bit. please log in to view this image
Ignore the Hull Daily Mail reporter. On their website, Hull Live, he descibes the goal as a freak in one article and as stunning in another article alongside it. I thought Watford looked a decent team and always a threat going forward. I enjoyed the game and wasn't too disappointed to lose it, because Hull City played well too. I'd sooner lose in a game like that than to a team who come to Hull, shut up shop for 90mins with ten behind the ball and then snatch victory with the last kick of the game.
Well said. It makes a change (these days) to just enjoy the game (and it was one to enjoy - for both sides ) and not be obsessed with the result. If any of Philogene's efforts had succeeded, the reports would have been quite different.
I can still remember the banter 11 years ago when we were second and third in the table and you guys were praying for second because you thought we had a better chance in the playoffs You went up in second place we scored the goal of all time against Leicester but blew the final against Palace thanks to a Zaha penalty If i remember you were not quite ready for the Prem then and we went up two years later when we were ready Its a funny old game
Does any other club have so many long shot goals as us? I think there are at least another 2 they could have added, so 6 in total!
I'd add Brian Owen's goal against Tranmere to the list. It travelled further than any of those - up in the air, over the Rookery roof then back down again and into the net.
One of our keepers scored direct from a goalkick think it was Sherwood against Coventry Before TV I believe one Darkie Brown scored with a header from the halfway line
I was in the Rookery for that goal we all thought the ball had gone into the allotments until it dropped down and into the net Not sure who was more surprised that the goal was given us or Tranmere
My memory of that goal was that he shot from about 25 yards, ballooning it way over the bar, keeper started to run round behind the goal and the wind caught it and it dropped in the net. I was quite young so my memory might have embellished it but it was the most ridiculous goal. I was standing near the corner, on the cinders.
I was behind the goal at the front of the Rookery. The ball disappeared above the roof, how far back I don't know, but it suddenly reappeared and dropped down. The look of disbelief on Jim Cumbes' face when the ref signalled goal was hilarious.
