The ball came from the right, McLean headed it to the corner of the D for Koren to have a shot. Whether McLean had been fouled or not that ball was going there and that shot was going to be made.

As it had no immediate effect in influencing the attack it was correct to try to play the advantage. Had that shot gone in instead of just past the post and the ref had blown for the foul we'd have been calling him to **** for not playing advantage whether we scored the penalty or not, just like that Arsenal sending off in the Champions League Final a few years ago.

Having played the advantage the only reason to bring it back would be if the ref could have been expected to realise that of the 3 defenders between Koren and the goal the one at the right (as Koren looked) would have had to be a yard or so further to the right if the return to McLean had needed covering (it was Delaney who'd been marking McLean until the midfielder came in and took him out), and that would have meant Koren could have gone for the right hand side of the goal more easily. It is not reasonable to expect the referee to have accounted for a defender's relative positions like that when our attacking play developed as it would have done anyway.

Looks like he's either gone to milk the sheep, or it's school tomorrow and he 's been sent to bed.
