Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with any fellow Charlton fans who are happy and/or satisfied with today's performance. After all, it's our natural impulse to be happy when the team wins. But (speaking for myself) these are far from natural times, in many ways. With Hull City in the sorry state they are in, a decisive and dominant away win today should be the expected result for any 'proper' Championship team. But Charlton Athletic are clearly not anywhere near being a proper Championship team, thanks to Duchatelet, Nimer and Southall. Thank God for Lee Bowyer, who still manages to get his players performing as a team despite everything. The 3 points against Hull today might make the difference between 2nd tier or 3rd tier football for CAFC next season. But scoring early against Hull and then defending our way to a 0-1 win is a relatively simple task compared to some of the challenges we face between now and the end of July. The team will be tested against much better opposition. Had we smashed Hull today I would be more confident. But I still think we are odds-on to be relegated.
So how do you think it will go the rest of the season? looking from the outside in, it appears you have a threadbare squad, will they cope? Massive 3 points yesterday, really was a must win. Boro and Dull really look poor teams, so I think you have a very good chance.
Obviously going to miss Judas Taylor but if Bonne and Hemed can step and we don’t get key players injured I think we’ll be ok , think Barnsley might sneak out of the zone as well with their form
Actually seen Barnsley a few times this season and they look a decent team, a bit shocked at their league position, my mate's a West Brom fan and he was impressed with them at the Hawthorns too. Barnsley/Charlton survive, Dull and the Dog botherers down, we go up, a near perfect season. Good luck
Also meant to say let’s hope scumwall don’t get anywhere near the playoffs, yesterday’s result was a good start
**** me do you ever stop moaning you miserable old man. Not surprised this place is deserted with your negative rants. We won away 1-0 against a relegation rival, a huge result, live for the moment, enjoy it and see where it takes us.
Hi Chris. I'm not surprised this place is deserted when members like you post 7 times in 7 months. Glad you've finally decided to express an opinion. If your expectations are so low that you're happy with the Hull win, then good for you. We'll just have to disagree about that.
i said something similar on twitter and got a bit of verbal diarrhea back. we were not impressive. against a better team we'd have been found out. but i'll take wins like that all day long.
It's all about opinions, and fans can disagree all day long - nothing wrong with that at all. (sorry to hear about the twitter abuse by the way, but it seems sadly endemic on that platform). And I do appreciate it goes against the grain a bit to pour cold water on a win for the team, or downplay it when most seem to want to just celebrate and avoid negtive comment at least briefly. We went to the worst team in the Championship and beat them 0-1. It is what it is. But I think it's a bit rich for a member with 5 posts in 7 months before yesterday to claim that I'm responsible for the forum being quiet just because of my negative rants. If other members here think my tone is too negative then challenge it by all means and we can debate the subject. Point out any specific part of any of my posts that you think is wrong, and I'll defend and clarify my position. That's what forums are for after all, isn't it? And unlike some fans' forums, everything about CAFC can be discussed here, including CARD and the Supporters' Trust. We believe in freedom of speech. I have no problem with folk who come around to read the threads but prefer not to post (or post only very occasionally). Each to his or her own. But nobody here is stopping anybody else from posting or expressing what they really feel. The more of that we get, the better.
There we go, my positive contribution. Does look a lot better than 22nd. I'll get round to updating my 2019-20 stats page when time and enthusiasm allows...
11 months ago I thought our target was 21st. I believe that was our budget anyway. So anything above that is a bonus for me. Hopefully next season we can worry more about league position, and less about the survival of the club. Isn’t that what normal football clubs do?
