HCST Guest Blog: What I did with my Hull City-less Saturday by @OllieHarsley please log in to view this image Last Saturday, guest writer Ollie Harsley took a trip down to Dene Park to watch a local team called Hull United AFC who currently ply their trade in the Humber Premier League… This team has a big link to Hull City AFC through the two ex-City players who manage the club. These two players are Curtis Woodhouse and Ian Ashbee. From the moment these two were announced as the new management team, I immediately thought that Hull United were destined for greatness. The atmosphere down at Dene Park is very good and it is refreshing to see so many people enjoy watching lower league football. The credit has to go to Hull United chairman Jamie Waltham for instilling a terrific ethos into the whole place. His decision to hand out lifetime passes to supporters has paid off as there was a decent crowd on Saturday including myself as a lifetime pass holder. It was a completely different experience from sitting in the stands at the KC Stadium to standing on the touchline at Dene Park. I loved every minute of it as I was stood next to the Hull United technical area where Curtis Woodhouse and Ian Ashbee were situated. I have to admit I was intimidated by their presence when they were shouting at their players but it is the best way to encourage their team. The opponents were Goole United. The starting eleven for Hull United included a certain Mark Greaves at the heart of “the Citizens” defence. Greaves, who is now forty years old is still going strong. I was also impressed by players such as Brett Agnew up front and Ben Kinsley out wide who opened the scoring for Hull United late in the second half with a sublime finish. Substitute Callum Harrison then bagged a quick brace to seal a 3-0 home win. This win is a seventh win in seven games for the Citizens who are steamrolling the Humber Premier League. At this rate, finishing top of the league is a very big possibility and it would be great to see for all involved. It would be amazing to see Curtis Woodhouse and Ian Ashbee guide them up the leagues in years to come and put this terrific little club on the football map. Hopefully after you read this article you’ll remember the name Hull United AFC (@hullunitedafc) as I’d love to see Dene Park packed to the rafters for every home game. I’m sure Curtis Woodhouse, Ian Ashbee and Jamie Waltham would love to have the support of thousands of fans. http://hullcitysupporterstrust.com/guest-blog-what-i-did-with-my-hull-city-less-saturday/ I also went, it was hardly a classic match, I arrived at half time and missed what was apparently a dire first half and I managed to catch all three goals in the second half. There's a good atmosphere around the place, probably helped by the fact you can drink all game and wander out for a cig whenever you want. Curtis is a character, I'd never met him before, seems a really nice bloke.
Ha, missed you, were you in the main stand? I was over at the side, as I walked in I spotted a lad that used to sit behind me at the KC, then I bumped into a mate whose son plays for Goole United.
I was first half, but went in between the dugouts for the second half. It was funny hearing some of the stuff Ash and Woodhouse were shouting at the ref and their players.
