Erm, I didn't say there hasn't been any violence at football for decades though.

Compare the average hull fc fan to the average hull city fan and you can bet the hull fc look a lot more gorilla/neanderthal than the hull city counterparts <whistle>

If your going to start bringing the players behaviour into, look no further than how the players respond to refereeing decisions, what about all the rape accusations of footballers. Anyway I accept this is no win argument, I'll stick to football on this thread. UTT

I'm talking specifically about HCFC and Hull players and fans.

Hull had a very good second division team (remember those crazy two divisions days?) that won every game in some late 70s season (78/79?).

Every home game had a five figure gate - astonishing in RL and the Hull bandwagon was in full swing.

This of course coincided with our late seventies relegation to division 3 in the same season I believe.

Many people especially in west Hull were faced with a stark choice. Support a losing football club on the slide or a winning RL team on the up. Needless to say a large number of people opted to see the RL team smash the **** out of big rivals like Huyton, Barrow and Whitehaven and delude themselves that this was sport at its finest- two evenly matched opponents with Hull winning everytime.

The fact that most of Hull's opponents struggled tp get 4 figure gates let alone 5 figure gates mattered not.

Some of these Hull fans, having developed the flat track bully taste, transferred this 'support the winning team' philosophy to football.

    Hull and Leeds Utd.

    Hull and LFC.

    Hull and Man Utd.

Some still stuck by City but many did (and still do) actively avoud supporting their local football team.

The age group of current 45 to 55 year olds are the worst of all for this- for the historical reasons outlined above.

They are the weak link in this city.

So, at 53 years of age I'm proud to be bucking the alleged trend, as I've supported City and FC all of my life, and yes, I do get bored with all the petty - my dad's bigger than yours - squabbling over football and rugby league, some people obviously need to grow up!

If this board is anything to go by we have as many arrogant mouthy fans as either of the RL clubs.

Hull FC fans are proud of their glory days in the same way we are enjoying ourselves now and good luck to them.
