Was Arco opposite Dram Shop? Used to be called Asbestos didnt it? What was the sports shop next to Debenhams called? I liked that one.
Used to go out with a bird who worked there. While she was handling your feet later she was handling my... Aahh. But it was called Asbestos wasnt it for a time in the 70's?
I think Intersport was actually an Italian company, but I don't know if ours was some sort of tie-up with Arco (it might explain the shop originally being called Asbestos). please log in to view this image
Huckleberry's on top deck of Prinny Quay. Sausage, chips and chip spice and 20 Marlboro red. If you could find somewhere to sit through the acrid smoke it was a bonus.
Used to visit on a regular basis bitd when it was on Anlaby Rd where Garton's is now. An Aladdin's Cave for kids who loved football, shop never empty in school holidays. Norman was a pioneer and became the Don of the British programme world, the Capo dei Capi. His shop had badges, pennants, posters, key rings and all manner of football riches/tat. Another unsung Hull notable.
Can anyone remember the name of the record shop on Hessle Road next to Aubreys .. two brothers ran it I think.. I spent plenty in there some of which I probably still have somewhere..!!
Dave the Rave at Robank arcade. A master at work and sorely missed( he's still alive as far as I'm aware) great bloke as well. A true gent. He must have kept Cossack hair lacquer in business on his Todd. He didn't give a flying whether you wanted some spraying on your Barnet or not. He'd cover your eyes and blast away for a good 15 seconds at the end of giving you a short back and sides. His signature cut of course.
Jack Kaye's supermarket on Ella Street. Sven Books on the corner of Sculcoates Lane and Beverley Road. Never went in or really knew what it was, but I think it was a porn emporium.
I remember that, it was just known as Asbestos in the 60's wasn't it? Edit' Hmm, a bit tardy with my response there...
Can't remember the name of the shop but it was quite near City Hall and they displayed album covers with the albums inside them! Say no more...
Bens leathers in marketplace. I bought an absolute monstrosity from there, all pockets with flaps and buckles. It looked like something Michael La Vell would have worn( sleeves rolled up) whilst opening a Kwik Save in Salford. I must have looked a proper tit in it. Cheers Benjamin.
Royce Manshop - opposite Cheese Stardisc Northern Clobber - great jeans with plastic belt with clobber all around Mill Street Clinic
