But many of those sales figures now come from their out of town discount outlets where prices are often 40% or more cheaper than the high street shops
Shows what I said....irrelevant on the high street !! The fact that the figures suggest M&S Hull & Brid are set to close shows that they are certainly irrelevant in Hull & Brid as a clothing retailer
5% are outlets but what proportion of sales do they make up ?? I also said the figures suggest.....not that the stores will close
They announced last year that their outlet stores were not profitable enough and over the past year they've cut the number of stores from 50 to 41, I'm afraid you're completely wrong about their contribution.
M&S would be a big loss to Whitefriargate IMO. I do hope they would see fit to reopen elsewhere in the city centre if they do go. The clothes are still popular with the oldies and the food with everyone - top grub.
Always thought M&S clothes looked better on the mannequins than in (or on) the flesh. Whenever I've tried M&S clothes there's always something not quite right about the style or the cut.
They've massively improved their website, a year ago it still looked like a 1980's Littlewoods catalogue, but there's still a very odd mix of product on there. They make some brilliant quality well priced Merino Wool knitwear, though it's still mixed in with a load of shinny shirts for Christmas, its hard to pull off being fashionable and middle of the road at the same time.
What years where you there? I was Marvel House captain as one of only two prefects and I was the sporty and intelligent one from memory, but not anymore!!
