Wednesday hit with a 12 point deduction for next season <yikes>

Where’s Derby’s?

Without knowing the actual rules and the finer points of the judgment, that just seems so contentious.
The Championship season has not ended. The sanction arguably should apply to this season. The offence took place in 2018 so why effect a punishment in 2020/21 season?

The most logical outcome would be to effect the sanction during the season in which the judgment took place like Wigan.

Given the new season is a little while off, there is time for the courts to sort this out.

Ps Derby have been mentioned but I understood Wigan’s appeal (hopefully successful as it seems very harsh given the circumstances) was to be decided today

As I understand it, there's an automatic 12 point deduction made to any club that seeks administration to avoid honouring finacial commitments for whatever reasons. Blaming the current covid 19 pandemic as a "force majeur" to avoid the penalty doesn't stack up or many other clubs would do the same thing to escape their creditors.

In those circumstances Wigan would have been aware of that before calling in administrators. I'm assuming the club voluntarily did it themselves and were not petitioned by an external creditor/debenture holder. In that case, claiming the points deduction to be "unfair" is very unlikely to hold water.

Sparkey if that's true then for sure it's no defence. I thought there was something about delays of input from new owners. And I couldn't understand why they'd voluntarily go through with it since the new owners will certainly take a bath regarding their purchase investment.
