The only real criticism I think that can be levelled at Hull is that we are too modest. Way too ****ing modest. Thanks for sharing.
I don't come out with continual criticism of Hull. It is people who get upset at the slightest criticism of Hull that are the problem. They seem to have some sort of inferiority complex. Those crap towns lists Hull topped a while ago and which the HDM got uptight about, full of quotes from people saying how can they say that? and they obviously hadn't been to Hull somehow overlooked the fact that particular list was based on asking residents what they thought about their own city.
I am not as delicate and thin skinned about criticism of where I live so don't care. Though you have to ask why they didn't choose Hull in preference. Or why so many Hull folk retire here but people from Brid don't retire to Hull. One noticeable thing, people from Sheffield, Huddersfield, Leeds, Barnsley and Middlesbrough are all critical of their cities but don't like their football team being criticised. We have people who criticise people for criticising the local rags negativity towards our football club.
I know quite a few from Brid, Leeds and the West Riding that chose to move and live in Hull. Sometimes, people make the mistake of thinking the world only exists in way that they choose to perceive it.
I can think of very few who have in comparison to those who move the other way. Knew one lad who did and ended up high up up in the DHSs. I did for a while, unlike some who post daily about Hull and what is going on but prefer to live outside of Hull in the East Riding.
As I said, the fact you don't know of them, doesn't mean they don't exist. There really are quite a few. The adjoining East Riding Villages really are just suburbs of Hull in every sense bar the arbitrary boundary, no matter what some people would prefer to believe. That boundary is what artificially generates a fair amount of the negative figures.
Given the traffic there, which often tails back along the side roads due to the volume heading in to Hull at peak hours, it'd certainly be a contender.
If you wanted to assume that's the only criteria, you'd maybe have a point, but that would look like someone just disappearing down a pointless whataboutery rabbit hole.
I am quite fond of Hull and surrounding areas, courtesy of the MOD letting me run riot on the roads in Ryder trucks, used to enjoy a run out down Analby and Hessle road, some nice surrounding areas Bishop Burton, Cherry Burton etc. Of course not forgetting a Thursday night on the lash in Beverley with some of the local lovely hens.
So, distance isn't a criteria? Beverley is closer than South Cave but no one suggests it is a suburb of Hull. Some areas nearby would be considered suburbs in other cities. Leicester is probably the only other city with such closely drawn boundaries as Hull.
Isn't it? It sounds like you're trying to claim all in with a single criteria. It's a really weak argument, that I'm sure you wouldn't accept from someone else trying to argue in the same, very limited style. I'll leave it until you come back with a more reasoned response.
So, how do you define what should be considered a suburb? Distance? Some random 8dea which differs depending on which direction you are heading?
