Lazy lazy journalism. Just quoting the book by S Tordoff. What next Lonfon evening standard telling the story of East end violence by quoting C . Dickens.
Hull Live have just put up the article on the Good Friday riot at Boulevard, by Angus Young, first time I've seen it mentioned in the HDM since it happened.
"Fortunately, those shocking scenes 38 years ago have never been repeated at a professional rugby league game in Hull." Hmmmm.
Forgot to mention that I was on the Gordon st end that GF. Mainly Hull normals, but there was some Wingfield Reds there and neutral group usually seen at BP. It started when the police led out some kid across the terraces, someone lobbed a rock, which missed the coppers and hit someone totally unconnected with the incident. He turned and hurled it back and then got 3 or 4 more back at him ,a very soon the air was black with missiles, most hitting unsuspecting folk on the back of the head. It made the nationals with pics on a dull day for sport. They shamed our city and terrorised it. City v. promotion chasing Hudders the next day- another lively afternoon. Then on the Monday away at already promoted Rotherham. We were already relegated, and BR cancelled a Special at the 11th hour. About 120 people travelled on a double decker hired at very short notice, creditable draw and another lively night. What a time to be alive.
My mate was pictured online years back with the notorious 'City Psychos' as if he was one of the main mob when in fact he was just walking home. Local journalism round here has always been bad but I quite like Philip Buckingham recently. Actually just realised it was the Silver Cod Squad not City Pyschos
