Ron Moody best ever....though Alec Guinness was good. Always thought Albert Finney playing Scrooge in 'Scrooge. The Musical' was a bit hammy... but I guess others will disagree...and that's fine....
True story.... Two of Weller's kids went to see a band. I can't remember which one. But when they got back they were telling him how cool the singer was. Weller : I'm cool. Kids, laughing : Yeah, alright Dad
One of my lads has always been a big Weller fan. He thought he was cool. I said to him he must have been a big Small Faces his fan early on going by his image, Small Faces were before my lad's time so he asked why did I reckon that. I showed him this.
'Instantly forgettable'? They have one of the most recognisable sounds I can think of, they've been hugely popular over four decades with musos and casual listeners spanning generations and still do huge, energetic live shows that make you feel like you're in a warehouse while being in their 60's. I personally think they get overlooked in music converastions.
OK..perhaps I need to change my record collection....Supertramp, Cockney Rebel, ELP, ELO, REM, Zeppelin....Cream, Pink Floyd, Genesis... See what I mean?
in 1981 i bought an album called "the ultimate action", which was a collection of recordings by 60s mod band the action, who had never released an album. several of my friends also bought the album. weller wrote the sleeve notes and was a fan.
Listen to what you want. I think there’s a lot of bland going on self indulgent in your list. Different strokes. To write off a band who have a distinctive, almost era/genre defining sound as forgettable is just way off the mark for me.
Phil Collins was a big fan as well. Along with Creation, one of my favourite bands of the time, and The Alan Bown Set, another favourite, they were popular with mods. They sounded mod and looked the part as well. Never get played at mod revival nights where they seem to think that mods listened to mothing but Motown. Always liked their cover of my favourite Temptations song
