Same here. Everyone behind the shape. Made us difficult to beat, just need a few of them to be nastier
To be fair to Slater he'd run a marathon by then. Mehlem on the other hand.... What does he actually do?
Created Burstow’s chance, got the first contact for the goal too. He gets in some really good positions and can create too. Slater was bypassed first and should’ve fouled, he let Baah get into his stride
Well, overall a much better watch and performance, particularly in the 2nd half. Also, listening to Ruben post match was much better than TW droning on and saying very little. Good to see us faff about less than of later at the back, generally moved the ball quicker and more vertical rather than sideways as Ruban puts it. I thought the 2 centre back did well, Coyle really struggled against Chakvetadze, who was their best player, Giles didn't have a bad game. Slater & Alzate struggled first half to get a grip on midfield, but 2nd half looked better. Kamara had a better game and looking a bit more confident. Pedro also had a good game. Clearly Ruban has got across some of what he wants to do, and it appeared a much better atmosphere in the ground, which is a plus. A point, stopped the rot, on to Coventry, let's hope they can build on last night performance.
I like the fact that we had players ahead of their pressing strikers , but far enough from the next line of players, some of the passing was, finally, done well.
Watch a replay of the game and it’ll make perfect sense. I wouldn’t say most of our players though, just some aren’t good enough.
I thought Giles did have a poor game but not from a defensive point of view. His touch, control, passing and crossing were all off but I think it’s just down to confidence and regular game time.
Stopped behind at the end along with quite lot more to applaud them - good effort positive play , just finishing a weakness really . Desperate for a strong running central midfielder .
I’d make Palmer the on-field captain on the basis he showed more fight and passion last night than Coyle has all season. Keep Coyle as the club captain which to be fair; he’s very good at.
Just re-watched highlights on Sky, by the end of the game I'd kind of forgot about the number of chances (or at least half decent positions) we'd got ourselves into, it really was another one from us where we could or should have won, but we switch off once and get punished, under the last nobhead that would prob have felt like a relief to get a point, under Selles it feels a bit more disappointing as I think we can already see the higher standards that are expected of the team and the rather swift improvement in performance which wasn't reflected in the score line
I thought It was better in the fact we tried to get the ball forward earlier, rather than passing around between centre backs and keeper. We should have won it, we just can’t put the ball in the net. I really want Giles to work, just based on the money we’ve paid for him. He was poor again last night, I don’t think he could pass wind and his crosses were terrible. Longman really hasn’t got any better since his loan spell. Palmer was decent Slater worked hard although should have done more with their goal. Coyle didn’t get involved when palmer had handbags although their captain sprinted 60 yards to get involved. It would be nice to have a couple of players with a bit of fire in their belly’s. Overall it was better to watch
I was a bit pissed off last night with the late equaliser and, as I perceived it, the dropped two points, but I woke up this morning a bit more positive. Seen in terms of a changed attitude, more fight and a bit of passion, the team performance was promising. We showed more grit and determination than we had latterly under the German and although we still looked hapless in front of goal, if we can find a way to score in line with the quality of chances we create we should be able to climb the table. Maybe not too far but enough to get us out of trouble. I think we seriously need to look at benching Coyle however. Drameh was shoehorned into the team because of our left back problem but if Giles is going to continue his progress (he wasn't great last night but he did ok), then we need to see if Drameh offers more in his natural position than Coyle, who hasn't played to his highest standards for a while now. Upfront, I think Pedro looked brighter than in any game so far and is worth persevering with for now. A quality, mobile finisher remains priority for January though.
Agree with all of that. The only thing I'd say to add to it is that's probably the most grit and determination I've seen from the side in a lot longer than under Walter's tenure. I think I have to go back to some time pre, or early Shota before I can think of any performances where I'm left thinking, "Yeah, you can tell they wanted that, the lads would take a bullet for each other".
Swanny is a West Ham & Leeds supporter he couldn’t give a **** about City. How anybody can’t see the improvement in last nights game having watched the absolute garbage all season is beyond me. We looked like a team with a plan we are lacking in quality in the final third. Slater, Coyle & Longman all poor. Coyle needs taking out the team he has been poor for weeks. Players seemed to have been given freedom to express themselves which is not bad work on the training ground in just 2 days.
Before this game I thought we needed two wins and a draw to make sure we get out of the bottom three for Christmas, based on the teams around us picking up the points you would expect them to. We now have the draw and we’ve stopped the losing streak, and Coventry should be seen as winnable. Its nice to see progress for the first time in months. We have three games to make the second half of the season easier for ourselves. At the moment we’d need the same amount of points we earned in the second half of last season (34) to be above the average to stay up. That would be play-off team form. A win or two would take off some of that pressure. It’s staggering how poor of a position we’re in due to Walter’s start. He really needed to go sooner and I think we probably have too much to do now as a result. If he doesn’t keep us up, I hope Sellès stays as he really does seem like he’s going to be a great manager.
We conceded because once again no one wants to do the so called dark arts side of the game. One of Slater, Mehlem, Giles or Mcloughlin has got to clip the winger's heels before he gets anywhere near our penalty area
I think the damning thing is the number of midfield and defensive yellow cards we have. Its not many. Slater has 0...
We're 1 point from safety. Forget about points totals based on an average year, We just need to get 1 or 2 more points than the very worst teams in the division get between now and the end of the season to stay up. We'll be fine.
