Sunderland play well against teams who like to dominate possession but are susceptible on the break.

They break quickly and have excellent players in midfield and out wide to take advantage of gaps left by the opposition.

Similar to the Norwich game we are ideal opposition for Sunderland. I just hope Walter has seen this and doesn’t play into their hands…I unfortunately don’t have faith and can see a 2-0 loss. Hope I’m wrong.

Not necessarily for this game, but do you think a midfield of Zambrano/Puerta/ Alzate would be the midfield we might end up being the regular one?

Slater and Omur have dipped in form lately but both are capable of getting back in our midfield.

I’ve been thinking that this might be a stronger midfield for some of the games against better opposition but we haven’t seen enough of the latter two so far to know. Looking forward to seeing how it develops though.

Memories..Like the corners of my mind
I don't remember the hand bagging...That must have been a first to ever happen....A bit like the first ever official UEFA sanctioned penalty shoot out at BP.

It was only 55 years ago after all. I can remember that game better then I can remember games from earlier this season. I don't remember a woman running onto the pitch with a shopping bag, but I do remember a fella running on with a bag of some sort, which I took to be a ruck sack and he made a bee line for the ref, Jack Charlton may have tried to stop him? 55 years is a long time and a lot happened during that game. One lasting memory I have no doubts about is the absolutley red hot atmosphere, which I loved and remember to this day.

Good memory TT....I was only a kiddie. I had my nose stuck up against the mesh fence ..Listening to a load of Geordies prattling on about how good there team was. Nothing changes. But I could only understand every other word...I played 5 a side with a Geordie and a mad keen Mackem at Costello...I never passed to him, told him I couldn't understand him when he shouted for the ball!!!! Very nice guy, though.

I've voted for a City win because I live in hope but I can't see us doing well with this manager, I had the same feeling with Shota i hope he proves me wrong but decent teams, well actually most teams just walk through us it's a good job Pandur has been on form, up The Tigers.

Big few games now to see if he's learnt anything at all from Norwich. If not then Derby, Pompey and Oxford become massive for us and him

It's a pity he hasn't had Zambrano, Millar and Palmer to work with during this break as they are key players for us (especially the 1st 2). I honestly expect us to be flying by the time we play Derby, Pompey and Oxford but still gelling for these next 2. Maybe a pity the order of games isn't the other way round.

I appreciate that he is closer to it... but on Puerta he said 'he's very emotional and still needs time' also hinting that there are others ahead of him in the queue. Anyone who saw Puerta the other evening might think differently. I dont get the emotional thing... maybe he doesnt like Yorkshire..?

We back to 'one loss away from a sacking' mentality again then?

We could easily change the system and still lose. If you are going to have a plan stick with it. Believe in your process otherwise you're never going to convince your players it works. Id rather see his football than Walter turn us into Arsenal just because we are playing a team with the potential to hurt us.

Sunderland has a putrid aroma of lingering old farts that carry up the coastline on the coastal breeze.

    City 3-0 Smell

I don’t think it’s so much a change of system that we need but rather a few crucial positions that need players that are more suited to them.
I’m guessing that Hughes will make his first start on Sunday, maybe Giles back in, although might not be considered as defensively solid for the next two games against stronger opposition, so Drameh may be preferred.
I can also see at least two of Zambrano, Alzate and Puerta getting plenty of game time going forward, to give us a bit more solidity in the midfield, with Omur, Mehlem and Slater fighting it out for the remaining attacking role.
I’d also start Kamara and bring Millar on later as an impact sub.
I’m looking forward to seeing how things develop. We look to have a very strong squad now but can the system work in the Championship.
