A lot of this is bob on! The bottom line is that Brucey has got today the most expensively assembled squad of players in The Championship along with also having one of the best managerial records in this division. This should make us one of the best bets for promotion, if not the best. If he gets us promoted then it will be through knowing what's required, and winning games based on a strong work ethic, organisation, ball retention, and defensive qualities. It reflects his own qualities when he was a player. However some fans/posters mix up results with Bruceys brand of football, with results being very good and his brand of football being dire unless we score early which rarely happens these days. So for me use Brucey to get us up, then change (please) which of course won't happen whilst the Allams are in charge

The 'embarrassment of riches' are all players that Steve Bruce has signed.
Last season we went down because of a near miracle run of results by Leicester City. This time last season Leicester were adrift at the bottom of the Premier League. Hull City were only one point away from safety last season. There are a hundred and one reasons why we finished up one point short and perhaps one of them may have been some of Steve Bruce's tactics in certain games. If SB got everything right he would be the first manager in the history of the game to do so. I don't why it bothers you that the football is 'dull' because you've said enough times on other forums that you don't even attend home games now.
You are entitled to your opinion as we all are but you have been hammering away at everything Steve Bruce has done all season, the only time you gave up on CI was when we went of a five match unbeaten run recently.
I find your constant whinging boring.

-> I don't why it bothers you that the football is 'dull' because you've said enough times on other forums that you don't even attend home games now.

    Not totally true.
Been to 3. Watched many more on TV, online, on Cityplayer after the game.
Would like to have gone to a few more.
Irrespective, of course it should bother me that the football is dull (as ****).

-> the only time you gave up on CI was when we went of a five match unbeaten run recently.

    Not true, but whatever.

-> I find your constant whinging boring.

On the one hand you agree I'm entitled to an opinion. On the other hand, because it's different to yours it's constant (a few posts a week at most nowadays) it's "constant whinging? Ah, rite.
    And I couldn't care less.

Is it just me that thinks this has been a great season so far despite the dire games at Rotherham and Preston.

Only 1 team, the Champions, was promoted in those years so it was a great achievement in the league in which they played and should not be diminished by citing the tier level. Those title winning teams played with far smaller squads with a no substitute rule and also played their best team in FA Cup competitions. In both the seasons you mention which I saw, we reached the 6th round.

SRB has never managed a team which has won any league so he has a good chance to do so with the current City squad.

Quite. Although I'd add Leeds to the dire list.

In 1965/66 City finished top of Div 3 ahead of Millwall who were also promoted as runners up. I would argue that the standard of the Championship today is far greater then the standard on the old 3rd Division, and I'm not diminishing that fabulous team or season at all..
Cliff Britain barely strengthened the team when they went up to Div 2 and after a great start they petered off to a mid table finish. So what was a great team in the 3rd division wasn't so effective in the league above.
Carter had 48 players on the books when he won the 3rd Div North title in 48/49.
No manager has taken the club up automatically from this level before, Championship and Division 2 before that.
Plus Bruce took us too our first ever FA Cup Final, further then we have ever progressed in the League Cup and we are still in this years FA Cup. Yet some fans still don't rate him, which was the point of my original post.

It's been a good year so far, great season for me is debatable as before that Bruces tactics and team selection were questionable and we were losing against crap teams away. If we keep going till May as we have done since January then it will be a great season but we aren't quite there yet.

I think people's expectations are different which is what this comes down to. I'll be really disappointed if we don't win this league. We'll never have a better chance than this with the squad we've got and the weak standard of the division. For others maybe they just want promotion and the PL cash that comes with it. Understandable but I want to see us grab the trophy that's so easily within our reach and show everyone how good we are. As it is every other team compliments us but it means **** all when we timidly fail to beat them. I want us to demand respect rather than getting it and then looking like we don't deserve it. It shouldn't be about Bruce in or out, he just needs to get his team able to break down a half decent defence. We're going to encounter a lot more of those before the end of the season.
