This I agree with. His passes were excellent when he had the ball, I just felt like he didn't really put himself about much. Again that may be a fitness thing, but it just reminded me of Ben Arfa.
powell looked good on the ball, but a number of passes, especially early on, were such that the recipient immediately lost possession.
We'll see in the coming weeks wont we. I ll reserve the excellent 10 out of 10 marks that youve given him for an appropriate occasion. Guten nacht
That's maybe more to do with the quality of the recipient than the provider of the pass? At times I thought our general passing was poor and we were often caught in possession.
I liked the look of Powell. Not everything he tried came off but he looked the most likely player to open their defence up. Even the guys behind me who have been shouting " Get It Forward ! " since December 2002 shut up after Powell came on.
I was suddenly very aware tonight of why Abel is getting so annoyed. He just doesn't get the ball and Diame often drops deep to get possession leaving him horribly isolated. So he resorts to doing it all himself, which isn't fair. We have got to where are are using good tactics, but other managers aren't stupid. They've obviously worked out that if you close down Diame (always 3 round him tonight) you cut off our supply line to Abel. We need to change it round a bit, otherwise we will keep getting caught short.
It's all about service to your front men, preferably at pace that unlocks a defence. We never turned the Wendy defenders facing there own goal once, something no defender likes doing. Our possession game is not built for that as our midfielders are honest but limited. What Bruce will look for should we go up will be players who can get from box to box faster and finish and/or supply that final ball we missed tonight.
Sureal isn't the word for tonight, sports bar my arse. Sat all night with me back to a drag act, not something you would want to so with an backside as big as mine. I couldn't hear the commentary, but that's not always a loss. MOM for me was Snodgrass. Good solid shift in tonight. It looked like we have been found out. Tip to Steve Bruce, change the ****ing set up.
Amazed that after the 0-0 with Brighton he admitted he should have freshened the team up, but repeats the same mistake a week later.
I would be very tempted to go 3-5-2. Our full backs seem to get in the way of our wingers at the moment and it just freshens things up a bit. Gives the opposition something else to think about as they'd be expecting 4-4-2.
I still think Robertson is wasted at wingback, his natural game is running at defenders. I would also consider using Dave as alternate attacking midfielder, especially if we need to chase a game. He can read a game, loves a tackle ,has blistering pace and likes a pop at goal.
Dunno how anyone can say Powell doesn't harry. The one key thing I've seen from him in two games is that he makes a big effort to win the ball back and is bloody good at it for an attacker.
they were perhaps over-ambitious efforts or the recipients weren't expecting them. can't remember all of them, but one was to hernandez in the box and as soon as the ball arrived there were about four defenders on him. i described them a few pages back as "hospital balls". one poster agreed with me, another didn't, and another reckoned powell had been awful. early days.
Good passing, control and crossing are required whatever the setup. Whatever the rights or wrongs about tactics, the standard of basic skills seemed poor when you consider the quality of the players. They play as though shackled. Which they are.
Abel needs the ball 'laid on' for him. When it isn't then he doesn't score. The opposition Manager will give instructions to 'crowd him out' and this was done successfully last night. He has done really well this season to score the goals he has but he is not up against the finest defenders in the world at this level. We have done well this season to be where we are with what we've got and our defence has been one to be reckoned with. Wednesday had little to offer (imo) and we should have done better (again imo) but there was no end product and little or nothing in the final third. Again, I saw no players who could be classed as 'average' for the Premier League (imo). There were many 'forecasts' at the beginning of the season and mine was that we would finish up in the play-offs but would lose to Middlesbrough. Very, very tight top four in this league but we are still in with a chance of top 2.
I can't believe how much crap some people are posting! Some slating players for not scoring, did you see them defend? I'm sure if we'd scored from the Clucas shot, it would be different comments! They would also have had to open up & we would have had more space & got a second! As for whoever said Bruce has to go, sober up! FFS! The way some of you post, you love it more when we fail! We dominate, they park the bus, we had the best chances to win the game, we keep the form striker so quiet, most people didn't realise he was playing until he got subbed. They came for a point, they got it!
There'll be a lot of teams coming to the KC for a point between now and the end of the season. There'll be so many parked buses we may need to sign Evil Knevil to jump over them. please log in to view this image
