Same old, possession, control, no goals. Jarvis and Sellars-Fleming not too good. Midfield not really there until Seri came on. No real signs of Walterball, whatever that is. I thought we looked worse with the introduction of Coyle. Focus seemed to switch to him instead of Seri, who'd controlled things until then. Keeper looked ok apart from his cockup early on. Mehlem looks good, Millar too as long as he's a team player. Omur didn't seem to contribute much. Work to be done. UTT.
That wasn't all bad, certainly not doom and gloom. We've got minutes in the legs of a couple of the new lads which will always help, we know we need strikers, Walter knows it, Tan and Acun know it.....they'll come and they'll (fingers crossed) be an improvement on what we have at the moment. Their 2 goals have both come from blunders, one of them one of the biggest howlers i've seen at a City match, in a strange way, that's a better way to concede than if they'd ripped through us twice with ease I guess,,,,If the 3 reportedly in the stands sign it adds more to the squad, and lets remember....this time last year we'd lost to Naarch and Doncaster......things could be worse
If it's the case of getting an aerial player in, then spend the £5m loaning Dzeko from Fenerbahce. Which would be a big cost but then at least you've got a striker who can actually play this system.
I think they'll come, but if we're expecting results now, then I agree with you. If we're looking longer term then we take some of these results on the chin and keep looking forwards. Zambrano and Hughes have taken longer than predicted (again) so the club really need to make some good signings and quickly from tonight until the close of the window. We still need a whole bunch of them in, particularly attacking quality, and on top of that, anyone that goes, needs replacing.
To be fair, I'm never arsed about the league cup, we get through, we end up playing Burnley, Fulham or Villa and get knocked out then. It's one less game we have to worry about I suppose.
Players won’t learn the coach’s style of play if the coach abandons it lmao. Some players have adjusted to it really well already. Simons, in particular, looks incredibly comfortable with Walter’s style of football whereas Slater just plays the easy pass every single time. The likes of Slater need to learn the new coach’s football and get better or they need to **** off.
I thought Jarvis was absolutely fine, he wasn't involved as much as he should have been but he was bright and lively and made things happen. He should've had an assist too. He was completely knackered after about 65 mins and should've gone off but there's nothing on the bench and that'll be what people remember. He was miles better than anything we saw from Lokilo last year
It’s about time we selected players to win a game instead of wrapping them up in cotton wool (balls)!!
Simons looks great, he's filled out physically and looks an absolute bargain, even though we'd had to wait a little while to see it.
We know it was only Cheltenham but, that gives them confidence. Away to a team that just won 3-0 at home is never an easy trip regardless of the team. It's gonna be a tough trip.
Positives: Miller and Mehlem looked lively and linked up well. Simons played well and we looked more assured when Seri came on. Also Walterball will create chances. Negatives: Soft goals conceded, disallowed goals, barely heard Jarvis and Burns names mentioned in the entire match. Sellers-Fleming barely had a sniff when we crossed it in and he's surrounded by giants. We looked markedly worse after the triple sub It's only the cup, and we're still building the team. The first 10 minutes were shocking, but we looked alright for the next hour.
We had more possession tonight. Middlesbrough had less but are winning 3-0. The only stats that counts are the BINs.
