The East Riding lot letting us down again Hull City 'supporter' given banning order after "missile" thrown onto MKM pitch The Tigers are battling an on-going trend of disorder developing across football involving a minority of match-going spectators Barry Cooper please log in to view this image The MKM Stadium playing surface (Image: Mark Cosgrove/News Images) A Hull City "supporter" has been given a three-year banning order after taking a grenade into the MKM Stadium and throwing it onto the pitch during a Tigers game. A Hull Live investigation into the growing problems of fan behaviour at football matches uncovered a growing trend of issues involving a minority of spectators following Hull City, with this incident the most worrying by far. On Saturday 19 March, 2022 during the game with Luton Town at the MKM Stadium, a spectator smuggled the device in, before throwing it onto the playing surface during the game. The match official, Tony Harrington, removed it from the field of play after a brief stoppage and the device was later safely removed after the game by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the police. An investigation found the football club have become increasingly concerned at the rise in pyrotechnics being set off inside stadiums, particularly away from home. Damage caused at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane stadium in January this year when a flare was set off in the concourse has been highlighted to us as one concern, while a section of disabled fans came dangerously close to being struck by a flare when another was thrown from the Hull City away section at Coventry City earlier this month. In City's last game at Reading on March 18, sniffer dogs were deployed and increased searches were carried out before away supporters were allowed into the SCL Stadium. That game was a first in five where disorder involving a very small minority of away travellers was not reported, but the issues throughout this season and last, are giving City and the authorities significant concerns. The club are understood to have been contacted a number of times this season by the FA over the behaviour of those purporting to be supporters. While that is of concern, the revelation around the grenade incident, which had previously not been reported, only highlights the serious nature of their growing concerns. "A 26-year-old man has been handed a three-year football banning order after throwing a missile on to the pitch at a Hull City match," Humberside police said in a statement. "Ashley Nield, of Nalton Drive, Driffield, attended Hull Magistrates Court and was found guilty of throwing the item on to the pitch during Hull City’s match with Luton Town on Saturday 19 March, 2022. "Due to the nature of the pyrotechnic, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were dispatched to ensure the item was removed in a safe and secure nature. Superintendent Sharon Philpott added: “I hope this court result shows people looking to attend matches and cause disruption that it absolutely won’t be tolerated. Nield’s irresponsible actions caused great disruption but could have endangered the welfare of players, officials and fans. We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour. Football should be an opportunity for people to come together over one common love of the sport, and anyone who looks to disrupt or ruin that will be dealt with robustly and have to face the consequences.” "Nield was also ordered to pay fines and costs totalling nearly £400."
Not like the fail to lead with a negative story about City fans ahead of our biggest crowd for six years
It caused such terror, that the ref tossed it off the pitch and someone wandered off with it, and nobody else apparently knew what it was until now. So one arsehole of a similar mindset to the multitude of areseholes throwing stuff on the pitch and at the players at rugby games.
Some ****ing idiot throws a grenade onto the pitch and your main concern is negative reporting by the Dull Daily, really?
It was described as a grenade. I'd be intrigued to know what it actually was, given the lack of fuss and punishment for such an action.
