Maloney was there last night. He was sat with his mate Snodgrass, Akpom, Lenihan and I think Dixon. Steward didn't let him in at first cos he was in civvies and didn't recognise him !
A few views from Rochdale http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/members/rochdale/forum/152695/back-in-the-car/#6
Cheers for that, we did let them back in the game like they said but then they never really looked like getting through and scoring either, a bit powder-puff
I was impressed with their energy. Sharp passing, players moving into space. The exact polar opposite of our display.
Got to agree with you there. Supporters go home happy if their team wins with an injury time own goal.Spectators, of which we have too many, and who would have left long before injury time anyway, sit there in silence demanding to be entertained and would be happier with a 6-5 defeat than a 1-0 victory. If people want to watch Real Madrid, Barcelona or similar style football they can subscribe to SKY or BT and watch all they want.
We won last night, yet I didn't hear many people leaving happy. There's a balance between the two, we were utter ****e to watch last night and that rarely goes down well with anyone.
I think we'll move towards a 4-2-3-1 when Maloney comes in. ---------------McGregor-------------- Elmo-Davies-Dawson-Robertson --------Meyler/Hayden---Hudd---- Odubajo---Diame----Maloney ---------Akpom/Hernandez-----
Hull City writer Philip Buckingham gives his verdict on the performance of the players as the Tigers progressed into the next round of the Capital One Cup by beating Rochdale. Eldin Jakupovic: City's penalty shoot-out hero from the first round was barely troubled until Calvin Andrew's header low down early in the second half. A relatively comfortable night for the keeper, who notched a welcome clean-sheet. 6 Ryan Taylor: Restored at right-back and was a threat for Rochdale from set-pieces. The summer signing will know his passing game was not always up to scratch, though. Moved into midfield but eventually taken off. 5 Alex Bruce: A first appearance of the season following injury problems was all very straightforward. The visitors were able to get the better of City's midfield but not of the defence thanks to the centre-back's calming display. 7 Harry Maguire: The League Cup has become the defender's chance to prove himself this month and he helped keep Rochdale at bay with a watchful performance. Reminded his manager that he is there to step up when needed. 7 Andy Robertson: One of two survivors from the weekend loss at Charlton and appeared keen to make amends. No faulting his commitment and drive, but the final please log in to view this image balls from good areas were lacking. Struggled to contain Rochdale on his flank. 6 David Meyler: Captained City for the first time as the senior midfielder and enjoyed the added responsibility. Never had it all his own way in midfield against a lively opponent but stuck to his duties well enough. Good discipline. 7 Isaac Hayden: The pick of a sorry lot at Charlton three days earlier and rewarded with a place in central midfield. Not quite the impact he will have hoped for but did enough to give his manager a selection dilemma for Preston on Saturday. 6 Mo Diame: A long-awaited return from injury. The midfielder's first start since last December was primarily an exercise in fitness but behind the rustiness there were plenty of nice touches. A star of the Championship if retained and fit. 7 Sam Clucas: The left winger was hit and miss back in the starting XI. Given a licence to drift in off the left flank but only sporadically became involved. Greater impact after the break but capable of more given past performances. 6 Greg Luer: A full debut for the rookie plucked from non-league last season brought a goal inside nine minutes. A cool finish enhanced his promising reputation and proved to be the difference on a night of fine margins. 7 Abel Hernandez: The £10m man was given the chance to top up his fitness and wasn't found wanting for his work-rate. Commendable tracking back for his side but really should have killed Rochdale off early with two big misses in the second half. 6 Subs: Moses Odubajo (for Diame, 59): Slotted in well at right back and stemmed Rochdale's attacks down that flank. 6 Ahmed Elmohamady (for Taylor , 68): Excellent work rate. 6 Calaum Jahraldo-Martin (for Hernandez, 79): Another cameo performance from the striker late on. 6 http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...tory-27677502-detail/story.html#ixzz3juocWwNk
It was weird leaving the stadium last night because the performance was that bad it felt like we'd lost. To play that badly against (no disrespect to Rochdale) an inferior side is appaling, especially when you consider that most of the team last night are trying to push for a first team place and should've been raring to go. Those of you that didn't go and are sat saying "oh we got the win, I don't understand the negativity", watch the full game on Tigers player.
Think all this talk of formations is irrelevant. We are the dumping ground for strikers! They come with good movement and a willingness to run inbehind then after 10 games they realise they ain't gonna get the ball and just stand still. Without sounding like our manager, you can play any formation you like, its the players that need to make it work.
The players do make it work. Last night we won, as we will most of our home matches this season. Stop the opposition scoring and one goal is good enough. The same philosophy home and away.
The whole formation thing I think caught us out last year with signings too, the players we signed last year i thought were more aimed at a 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation, with us getting in attacking wingers like Snodgrass and Ince and Robertson at full back. I think Bruce was aiming to fit them all in, only for **** to go wrong and a revert back to 3-5-2, which meant Ince shipped out on loan, only one of Robertson / Brady playing at one time and if Snodders had been fit not sure where he'd have played. Again this season i'm sure he's looking for a 4 at the back with his signings, but if he reverts to 3-5-2, it's going to leave new signings surplus to requirements as Clucas wouldn't get in at lwb, and it'd be a straight up Dave or Elmo for rwb.
I quite enjoyed it myself, was keeping an eye on the young players, new signings and Diame, I think a lot of our fans have way overhigh expectations of what to expect from a Capital One game versus a League One side who are well up for it
That is because so many people from Hull are miserable, moaning whingers and not like the more well balanced folk of the East Riding. Would they have been happier if we had lost 5-4 in an end to end thriller?
I agree to a certain extent with this, what do people expect from a team full of kids and pros coming back like Diame and a lesser extent Taylor, also people forget the likes of Maguire who was anchoring the defence is just a kid himself, and even Bruce Jr has had no games himself this season and didn't let the side down
I was expecting us to play like a Steve Bruce Hull City side. I wasn't disappointed and we won as we will do in most of our home games.
Most of the people there last night were from the East Riding, as they always are. I think they'd have been happier if we'd won, while not looking completely ****ing ****e.
