Kind of should of expected that. Preston are the low scoring game kings.

Yes, Tigress back home & reporting for duty!

2 points lost for me, we had enough chances first half, could/should have scored 2 or 3 to put that game to bed, same old...lack of quality in final third. The one that Oscar skied....really needs to be testing the keeper. I guess a point is better than none, and in 2nd half, for 20 mins that was a real possibility, their subs/changes were more effective and we were under the cosh. But, we weathered the storm and finished strongly again.

Highlights for me; standout players, Greaves didn’t put a foot wrong, Tufan was on it & up for the game, incl physicality, Pelkas, a best performance until tiring. Simons looked impressive given his lack of game time/match fitness. Preston’s no. 2, quick, run rings round us, just what we need, he’d def improve us.

Low lights (I’m not a hairdresser!); abysmal officials, particularly linesman West side, said many times surely officials can’t be any worse....and then they are. Malcolm, would love to know what Liam sees in him. Didn’t look like he’d played in a team before. No idea where to go 2nd half corners, free kick positioning, the bench were yelling/pointing where to go, he looked clueless.

Anyway, a point better than none. UTT.

Has there been a change recently? Feel like every linesman on the west stand is waiting for the ref to decide the throw ins and corners. Its beyond bizarre as its their bloody job

    Preston boss Ryan Lowe:

"I thought a point was fair. We nearly nicked it, but you can't start games like we did in the first half.

"We had opportunities to win it but it's a good point in the grand scheme of things, away from home, to build on the point in midweek (against Luton) with 10 men.

"Second half was more like a Championship game and it was two teams who were trying to get three points. First half was nowhere near the levels from both teams and the second half was much better."

    Hull City boss Liam Rosenior:

"I'm delighted because what I asked from the players was a positive reaction to what was, from a performance point of view, the first time and the only time since I've been at the club that we weren't at the right level. Today we were and that's really pleasing.

"I know it's frustrating and we want to win games of football, but you only win when you have a consistent level of performance.

"Some of our build-up from the back they couldn't live with and on another day I think we win the game and we're out of sight by half-time.

"I was surprised by the booing. I've spoken about how important togetherness is here and I'm surprised, I'll be honest.

"We weren't clinical in the first half. We were so much in the ascendency. We could have been 3-0 up and that's the frustration. Unfortunately we didn't have that final moment and that's frustrating because we had 80 or 90 per cent of our game."

Biggest highlight today for me was DBT trying to excuse his ‘send him back’ rant about Malcolm.

Wasn't the booing for the ref not the team?

Oscar's early season promise has disappeared round the u bend. The curse of Richie Appleby strikes again.

Think our performances under LR have slowly deteriorated. Intiallly I was really impressed with the passing and interplay slick as a whistle at times. but maybe that was against poorer opposition. Today there was lots of scrappy play but the more incisvie play actually came from Preston during their spell of dominatation in the second half. Most of our chances turned into scrappy affairs that led to no clear cut chances. The lead up to those chances were preceeded by a failure to control the ball with a first touch in particular from Pelkas and Docherty--given what we have seen of Connoly with his abillity. to make it look like he has glue on his laces he would have feasted on some of those balls. Simons was a capable deputty in the first half for Seri, not so much in the second. We never looked as though we were going to score. Oscar huffed and puffed but needs to do more with what balls he gets.
Preston were a good side and made a game of it. Tufan had a good game but again was wasteful with the balls that he had with too many of his final passes being off target.

Couldn’t agree more. Watch the top players and the importance they put on weight of pass and placement so the receiver doesn’t need to break stride.

-> "I'm delighted because .... Today we were (at the right level) and that's really pleasing.
    Really?

-> but you only win when you have a consistent level of performance.
Nope. You win games by scoring goals, or more accurately by scoring more than the opposition.

-> on another day I think we win the game and we're out of sight by half-time..... We could have been 3-0 up
I think that's called Rosie tinted glasses.

Great work in tightening us up at the back and getting us more organised. But yet again we were so poor in terms of attacking play, especially in the final third.

Talks well. Has done some good stuff. I absolutely want him to be successful, and realise not everything happens overnight, but I'd have expected more in terms of attacking threat & end product by now. We've moved beyond the manager having to turn to players like Tyler Smith; he has decent options. I remain not fully convinced.

Simon's was pretty sublime today considering he's only 19 and that's his 1st ever league start.

I completely understand why we waited to play him until the deal was done as the kids should be pretty special.

He's got everything, he's big, strong, uses his body well, is technically very good and he loves a tackle. That performance considering his age and lack of experience is crazy. The kid could be so good over the next few years.

Teams just know how to play against us, we have no plan b ATM and ways to break teams down if they nullify our plan a. If Rosie and over come this or not will show us how good he is.

Preston were so poor first half, we really should have been 2 or 3 nil up at half time. Our pressing had them ****ting their pants over and over and we failed to punish them. Wasn't particularly poor finishing but poor final balls mostly. When Pelkas went through on goal after 30 seconds and messed up his touch that seemed to set the tone. Everything after that was just as wasteful. We were miles the better side that half but just couldn't be clinical. You just knew Preston would come out better second half, they couldn't be much worse. Inevitably we ended up regretting all that profligacy first half.

What am I missing with Tufan? Seems that whatever he does people say he was good. I keep being told how good he is technically but he put everything in the stand today. First half shot on the edge of the box in a good position, ballooned it. Second half he tried to play it out wide to Ebiowei but put it in the South stand and later tried a deep cross and again found the stand. Our supposedly limited players don't do that. People endlessly scrutinise Longman, Slater etc for only doing the basics well and not excelling at anything but then they praise Tufan when he's not even getting the basics right. And the dive was pathetic too, another element of our wasteful first half play because he was in a really good position there.

I think it just shows the lack of depth. We're missing Connolly badly, and seem to lack that spark without him.

I must say, I've been pretty disappointed in Pelkas this year, I was really looking for to seeing him play for us but his end product is garbage. The one that really sticks out today was when he outmuscled (it was a foul mind) their defender and messed up a simple 5 yard pass to Oscar for a tap in.

With the 433 variation we reverted to today, it heavily relies on decent wingers and I don't think there's one at the club and we probably need 3/4

I don't agree with that. We've seen different ways of playing within the same philosophy under Rosenior. Sometimes we pass them to death and sometimes, like today, we pass it at the back only until they press us and then we play a lot of long balls as soon as they come out.

Again this feels like people needing to have a tactical explanation for a result and over thinking it instead of just looking at what actually happened - we were just wasteful. If Pelkas had a better touch in the first minute or had completed the simple square ball to Oscar for a tap in we'd have won that game comfortably. If we're going to talk about tactics and plans, ours had them absolutely on the ropes first half today, we just didn't make anything of it.
