No disgrace in the result and some decent bits and bobs to be taken from the performance, but Tim Walter needs some quality additions in to work with ASAP. Omur's a cut above and will attract plenty of attention with his quality of football...Nice player to watch. UTT!
One player scored 2 goals and he got 1.30min today, why? Longman will be gone come Sept, so why not give Hall 15-20mins? Not happy about that. Yes I know he is v young.
I thought Longman had a pretty good game. He looks stronger. Jacob the only one who was really weak. The other starters all put in a reasonable showing.
Very telling he was hooked at HT, think we won’t be seeing him for a while. Drameh Fleming both look miles more suited
My summary is pretty much what has been said: Much better showing from most of the team. I personally don’t think Jacob, Longman or Pandur are good enough to be starting - it seems Rosenior was right not to play him last season. I thought Drameh looked very promising and confident on the ball. I can also see the tactics starting to come together and looked much better once the players started to be braver on the ball, rather than dither about at the back. Oscar must be annoyed that the chances didn’t come until he went off! Newcastle however didn’t need to go into second gear, thankfully. But that’s no shame, they have an incredible squad and are a top Premier League side. My only controversial take is that I have my reservations about Giles. His decision making let him down a few times. Perhaps it’s because he’s not a natural attacking winger. Overall, as I said before the game, a few additions and we are about there for the first lot of games. We then get some more players/loans before the deadline and suddenly we have a squad that can challenge. Still feeling positive, but additions obviously needed before that first game. UTT.
Don't think Jacob looked all that last season. Doesn't looks comfortable on the ball. Passes often a yard off or wrong pace. Just not quite up to championship standard.
Tbf, thought Giles is starting to show why Boro still want him and why we paid good money. Showed he has actually got a bit of pace after all and can (try to) take a defender on on the outside. He's certainly putting in the effort. Thought he's been ok in these friendlies so far.
I agree, though he did step up from Gateshead to the Championship. He needs a lower league loan this Summer. He’s a great prospect, I just think a highly technical tactic might be a bit much for him this season. Be good if he could go to Donny or Peterborough.
He definitely has the physical attributes and is technically okay too. There were just moments which if it had been a league game, would have left me very frustrated. From last season, I wasn’t convinced on his defending. All in all, I have my reservations. He could absolutely prove me wrong this season.
Midfield looked better when Seri was on today. Prior we didn't real progress the ball. A lot of promising signs
Agree on Omur. If he’d have added a goal, I’d be worrying about Newcastle testing our resolve with a bid.
I think so too, L1 probably about right at the moment for him. I think he will end up somewhere around the level of Callum Elder with some experience.
I'm kind of fed up of us all saying how great Ömür has been without anything ever actually coming off for him. He's brilliant but he's at risk of being a nearly man. It has to start turning into goals, assists or real chances at least. Saying that, not sure why he didn't get a pen in the first half.
Enjoyed it. Decent display and more entertaining with the ball. The purpose is there when we get possession and we look to go forward. Pandur I like. Smart with his feet.
You can see Simons is really trying to practice it. Seri definitely has a part to play even if it’s not from the off, don’t think we can afford that though
