Agree and disagree. If we take a punt on a Div 1 or 2 RB for 500k and he isnt up to it fair do's really. But to pay the money we have for an ex Spurs CM its shocking. Sunland were willing to pay that much too werent they?? I have seen nothing from Mason to make me sit up and think ye thats why we signed him. And i dont think i will. When we drop down to the Championship i dont see his attributes will help us at all. He's not physically strong, not great in the air. Doesnt look a holding MF, not pacy, doesnt look like an attacking midfield. He has the air of what the **** have i done coming here. I dont think its as though some of us are going to be proved wrong either, on what we have seen he's a disaster. Fingers crossed he comes good, mayb e his mrs is pregnant etc etc. Struggling to settle whatever. I still dont see him displacing clucas, Jake or Hudd. So do we drop Snodgrass? We all want him to be a success. Same with Henriksen.
When you look at what glp put about spending 13m on a midfielder a club record fee when were crying out for strikers or a rightback or even a top class goalie it is quite laughable, whos making these decisions? The fact hes being played out of position when obviously short on confidence and not settled is even more laughable, startjng to think phelans as inept as ehab Could we not of signed a goal scorer for £13m , knowing our track record probably not Buuut i think that could of got us one of ulluoa, rhodes, assembolonga etc etc Me personally i like mason, but in hindsight wrong signing when prioritys were elsewhere , but i think he'l come good when settled and used properly, he came through as an attacking midfielder (10) but ended up playing a deeper role for spurs. The way weve been set up is very defensive which compared to spurs who are very attacking probably will take some time getting used too He was loaned out by spurs before he broke into there team and his record and stats in lower league football are pretty good, i think if we get relegated he'd thrive in a more attacking dominant city team, but while we have %30 possesion in games and generally defend he'l take an age to look good. Conundrum for phelan does mason fit into your system as a deep lying box to box midfielder next to an anchor man or do you play him as your number 10 (koren) please for ****s sake lets not see him out out on the left wing ala vs boro
That's my point Chazz, so far he's not looked up to it, from my view on the box & I agree that he does look lightweight. At times physically weak in comparison to his peers. He looks to be lacking in confidence & is definitely struggling to reach expected levels. Whether this is down to just his confidence or also his ability & position played we'll learn as time goes on. Whatever we find out the fee we paid for him has nothing to do with him. It was agreed in negotiations that he had no part of. If he turns out to be long term ****e then those responsible for scouting, recommending & negotiating the fee should be held to account. He's not the first our system has overpaid for, he won't be the last. His salary in the other hand ... As per the clique's arrangement you forgot to like my post above.
I doubt there's a single City fan who wouldn't have signed someone like Assombalonga ahead of Mason, but a clown did all our transfer business in a single day without appointing a permanent manager, so it's hardly a surprise that it was a mess.
Its got to the point now where it really is laughable the way were being ran, all thats missing is the benny hill music
He gets oyed off the ball too easy. His midfield peers Hudd Livers Hendrix Clucas Snodger Meyler Who would you put your money on ending up on their arse if he went shoulder to shoulder with any of them? How many of them do you think he'd beat at arm wrestling? He needs to beef up, physically.
Does he need to have a wwe wrestler physique? I touched on it earlier his stats (while even younger and probably less physically developed ) in the physical lower leagues of english football were very good, maybe just another thing to slate the kid about but i think physicallity is well down the pecking order for a player in masons position
If he went shoulder to shoulder and went down he'd more than likely win a freekick these days Arm wrestlings irrelevant He could maybe improve his upper body strength but then koren wasnt huge Things like anticipation, touch, passing, vision would all help him more than improving muscle mass I think physical developments far too obsessed over in this country rather than technical ability The play the big lad mentality is well outdated
The skinny lad in that pics probably spanish and won three world cups While the lumps argy bargying in the centre all play for england and are ****e lol
You need a degree of physical strength to get by, even if playing Sunday League on Costello. He's seriously lacking in it.
Yeah i agree Im wondering how he did so well in our lower leagues if hes will o the wisp I think itl be more lacking in confidence than lacking in physicallity The lad will improve just needs time, the fee makes people impatient I dont think phelans done him any favours too
