Managed to watch the game yesterday courtesy of Sky and without stating the bleeding obvious City simply didn’t seem to fancy it mentally once Luton got in front. Far too many heads dropped at 0-1 and that has to be a worry given the state of our league position. Can only repeat this league will swallow most teams up if you’re not at it from the first whistle and even clubs in danger can turn you over as we’ve witnessed ourselves recently. Whilst some will argue alarm bells are ringing and certain players are once again apparently ****e the Bottom line is City can play a lot better than yesterday and it wouldn’t surprise me if we did do next weekend against FC Massive. Quite frankly..we have too. UTT.
I think Baz said it's now 1 win from 16 in games immediately after international breaks, which is absolutely ridiculous. Whatever factors there are which affect performances after a break must also affect our opponents so I can't make sense of that. We always seem so confident too. There's always talk of the break being good for us. Time to work on things which we haven't had with all the 3-game weeks, etc etc. But we always lose, and usually at home to some ****e side.
alzate technically, is a very good player, theres no question, he can trap a ball, make great passes but and its a big but games like yesterday are a big weakness in not only himself but the other midfielders completely outfought, and made ineffective these are the sort of games a top midfield should be dominating in my humble opinion thats the sorta stuff that seperates the good players
Beyond frustrating innit. From what I saw and looking at the squad Luton shouldn’t really be where they are but they still had enough believe and defensive muscle to turn a City side over who looked berift of ideas as the game progressed. Another perfect example of how unpredictable this league really is in my book. UTT.
I don't see it. I don't know what he is. Certainly not a target man, nor a goal scorer. Even target men have to weigh in with goals. He's not exactly a young kid either, he'll be 24 in summer and with a LOT of senior games played. Yes, still time to develop of course, but not like a Burstow for example who is a couple of years younger. I get the signing of Burstow, expecting him to develop. But Joseph is a different case at his age and with nearly 172 senior games under his belt too, with 149 of those at L1 level, and 23 at Championship level - he played 12 times when with Swansea ... no goals scored. They released him after 2 years of his 4 year deal, having loaned him out to L1 clubs for a season and a half. Seeing what we're seeing, that's got to make you wonder? A really bizarre signing, when as you rightly say, we desperately needed someone for now, and not just someone who is a nice guy, can run channels, etc but who can actually score goals. Signing him was bizarre. Starting him compounds it, even when our options are limited.
I've said this time after time, but at this level we seem to be prone to signing the "he's not that type of striker" strikers, the ones that do all the running and graft instead of the actual, 15-20 goal a season striker that other teams seem to prefer. I don't know why this is, but we barely ever seem to have out and out goal scorers in our team that play as a striker. Even when we had Bowen and KLP, they weren't strikers but wide players who cut inside. The last proper one we signed at Championship level was Matty Fryatt and that was in 2012.
It's not complicated, it's because we can't spend £10-15 million on such a player. We have to make compromises. Tom Cannon is a classic example. Can't get a start for Sheffield United, yet cost £10M for a bench striker.
Personally, shortly after he was sacked. That is all. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
£10 to £15 million for a proven experienced quality one for this level. But far less if coming from lower leagues, youth, loans, oversees, .... There must be better options out there. Tbf, we've yet again been so unlucky re. Barry, but even then, it would have been a lot of weight on young, relatively inexperienced shoulders expecting him to be the answer to our goal scoring problem. Basically, the club have failed window after window for far too long in this respect, and I guess that includes with our youth development too.
I assumed he was an insurance for next season signing? As in pedro and others would go if we got relegated but he would stay and know league one and do well in it ?
Well, having seen him 'play' enough times now, that would seem like the only logic. But I'd be astounded if that was the club's thinking!
Yeah, we need a young striker from League One with a bit of pedigree and promise. Oh wait… There are no guarantees. There are no unearthed gems that we might stumble upon (the kid Alli for Luton yesterday was a punt from Exeter, he looked like he had walked in off the street). There are only compromises.
Simple solution surely needs to be, no holidays, they're paid athletes GGS and in the interim you arrange a full game with a like minded team. Perhaps one you've already played the twice or a non league team with a promise of a loan.
