Only two teams have beaten Liverpool in the league by 2 goals and they play each other on the 17th May.

I think you're missing my point. Nothing to do with the quality of the two sides...

I don't care for Liverpool as a team but I honestly think that if there had been a proper investigation after Hillsborough so that the true course of events and extent of mismanagement by the police was evident, with acknowledgement by the parties involved, and that some of the disgusting remarks about the 96 who were killed had not been made then this whole Hillsborough thing would have been put to bed years ago and the families could have moved on.

I would also like to think that if this had happened to a group of City supporters, that there would also have been a long running campaign to get at the truth. And if such a campaign led to us being labelled as having a victim mentality or moaning eastyorkies or whatever, then so be it.

Its very difficult to grieve and move on in the face of such injustice.

I think some people forget that the injustice was greater than those 96 souls. Their deaths and the subsequent cover ups are symptomatic of the slurs and abuse aimed at us simply because we're football fans. They wouldn't get away with baseless abuse and intolerance against any other section of society.

    Good post.

I think as a city, we can learn a lot from Liverpudlians - I’ve never ever heard a Scouser say a bad word about their home city – their pride is a massive asset to their city.

I have no connection to the place and dislike LFC (purely due to bellends in this city), but on a human level, some of the comments on this thread are absolutely disgraceful. I really hope no one from Liverpool or a person whose family was connected to the disaster reads it as it’s a real slur on our club too.

People feel they can be blasé about Hillsborough because ultimately it was 96 northern football supporters who were largely, if not all, working class.

If people had been flippant or just downright insulting about another tragedy involving a police cover up, say the Stephen Lawrence murder, people would have rightly been jumping down that person’s throat.
