Great game, both teams doing everything to win it. Hutchinson is a hell of a player. Best I've seen at MKM for a while. Not just his goals but his touch, speed, confidence, dribbling all fantastic. He gave Jacob the run around who did everything he could to keep up with him and pretty much collapsed on the final whistle. We need a better LB next season though but would be happy for Jacob to be the backup LB. Giles came on and he puts in about as much effort as Malcolm Ebiowei for me. He just seems to jog around the pitch without breaking a sweat whilst chewing his gum and messing with his hair. Frustrating player who game with a good reputation. Seri covered some serious ground last night, made some great tackles. He looked really up for it. Delap is so effective up front. Hope we keep him next season, even if it is just another loan.
Tuanzebe should have had a second booking there and been sent off after he avoided the nailed on booking earlier #214 charon-the-ferryman, Yesterday at 8:40 PM
Apart from bottling the sending off I actually thought the ref had a very good game. Went back and booked their players after advantage was paid and controlled the game well.
What an effort that was! I was relieved when the final whistle went as I felt Ipswich were next to score, but that is why they are top 2 material. I hope they go up. After Hutchinson’s first goal, I was reliably informed (by my Ipswich mates) that he does that ALL the time. So was obviously rather annoyed when he had all that space for his second. Perhaps we should have done our homework there too. Easier said than done to stop him though and he was one of, if not the best player to play us at the KC this season. I’m in agreement about Jacob (not his best but warmed into it) and Jones (nervous) but fair play to both for their heroics towards the end. I was happy when Delap came on at the start of the second half. Great, brave decision by Rosenior. He must be knackered but we do need him. Also, Ohio looking great again. It was pleasing to see them on together. Maybe I’m old-school but I do like two strikers on the pitch! I am very pleased we have something to play for next week. I expect Norwich and West Brom to win but Rosenior has done enough for me now to have faith for next season (I did predict 72 points with this squad). We have seen a big improvement in attacking play and speed in the last few games and there is no doubt that Rosenior is a huge part of the togetherness we have in the club now. It’s also nice to read a match thread that doesn’t involve petty bickering. Except that Ipswich fan who didn’t get the playful banter from Ben. Already looking forward to next week. UTT.
Not really an advantage though when the player who should have broken with Philogene was crocked. He ended up surrounded by about six Town players on his own! Don't forget the phantom fk on the edge of the box either.
Yes, been saying on the podcast for weeks that all I wanted was for us to take it to the final game and be in with a chance which we've done. Now to secure the bloody thing! Will be a shame if we win but WBA manage a result but hopefully things fall in our favour. Crazy things happen on final days..
Philogene should have stopped then, it would have come back and been a FK. Philogene didn't need to tear off with it. I also didn't understand why Philogene cut in-field into the crowd of players when he could have gone wide to whip the ball in.
Can't believe you did not understand why Syd he was obviously going to take it to the corner and back flip it up above his head and then overhead kick it at a tight angle into the opposition goal, please pay attention.
Great game last night, some how it’s managed to roll into next week. Maybe it’s ment to be that we reach the play offs, although I think wba will win. FairPlay to jozy, his touch wasn’t the best but if he keeps popping up with goals, then that’ll do. I hope after last night Rosie puts to bed that slater can play rb. If philogene wants this big move then he needs to be better, I can’t work out if he just doesn’t turn up for big games or his level is against top championship clubs at the minute. Seri looked like he’d run 100 miles Ipswich looked a good side at this level, they looked like they had another gear if they needed to score
Which actually might suit us Balkan.... we're better with space to play behind.. Birmingham have an already Play Off safe Norwich
Well they are not real safe if WBA win and Norwich lose 4-0 and we win 4-0 they are out of it. Pretty sure there has been some big turn arounds and upsets before.
Acun has finally been getting what he wanted at the start.. 3-3 draws, 3-2 wins, he must have been a frustrated happy camper last night on his flight home...
In truth, this 'improvement' though has progressed over the season has happened over about the last 6 weeks
Was going to say the same. However it specifically came about, the piss poor Easter weekend which saw us drop to 10th was the final straw which galvanised what we have turned into now. Prior to then we'd usually get one or two shots on target per game, sometimes zero, and they weren't usually good chances either. We didn't attack as a team, we didn't create clear cut chances and we spent far, far too much time passing the ball around deep and hitting the reset button far too readily. This had been going on all season. Since Easter we've used the ball far more effectively, we attack quickly more often and we've sacrificed some of our possession by taking chances that have lead to a huge upturn in chances created and inevitably goals scored. In my opinion there is no reason we couldn't have been doing this sooner, but whether you believe how we're playing now has been LR's plan all along and the player's havent been doing it, or whether it's down to some crunch talks after the Easter weekend which forced LR to let the players play - regardless, it's down to Liam for getting or allowing the team to play this way now. If we take this new mentality and desire to create numerous chances per game into next season then we'll have a good crack at it. There's no 'narrative' and it wasn't as simple as we weren't taking our chances, as we simply weren't creating them. If we keep on in this manner we'll win more than we lose and LR and the team will have strong support behind them moving forwards. We may even nick a playoff place as a result of it.
Hull City boss Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside: "Tonight we didn't win but what I saw was everything I've ever wanted to bring to this football club. "There was a spirit and a connection between the supporters and the team that I'll never forget. "To go toe-to-toe with a team of Ipswich's quality, and the fans kept us going, the players were magnificent in their responses. "I'm proud of how far we've come, we're going to fight until the end and we've seen that today." Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It was some game, I thought we showed some of the best attributes that we've shown this season tonight. "So many positives to take, the spirit, the quality, the bravery that we played with and the threat that we carried against a very good side that were also fighting for the result they wanted, they have an awful lot of good players. "Of course we feel we could have won it, we had the lead and had chances to win the game but it wasn't meant to be." On Omari Hutchinson: "He works so hard, he's so humble, wants to practice all the time and improve his game."
The morning after reflection! What a cracking, entertaining game, and atmosphere, to come back from behind 3 times, showed great character, determination, thoroughly enjoyed. Only right that we can take the excitement into last game of season, hoping a grande finale for the superb travelling support, make the long journey even more worthwhile. All ifs & buts I know, if Delap hadn’t been injured am sure we would have been top 6, but you could see difference he made Wed and when he came on last night. If fit, I would have brought Coyle on half time, thought Slater had a stinker at right back, & pushed Slater into midfield with Seri, thought the game largely passed Morton by. Omur having to play deeper to help out Slater, we lost some of his creativity. Young Matty Jacob had his work cut out all night, a steep learning curve for him, albeit against one of the better teams we’ve seen, but didn’t give up. Poor lad almost collapsed at end! Once again, Tufan covered every inch of grass, so pleased for Ohio, played two bit parts in last 2 games, scored in both. Credit where due to Allsop, didn’t think he did anything wrong, making a few excellent strong saves. Just frustrating again, to give a soft first goal away, and didn’t learn lesson for 2nd & 3rd goals, think we were just so concerned at trying to double up marking their big guys in the box, leaving men free with time & space. A fantastic late night, great atmosphere driving City on. It’ll be quiet in my house today, seem to have lost my voice somewhere! Onwards & upwards to next week. Keeping everything crossed. UTT.
