Think I’d like another midfielder - Zambrano, Alzate, Matazo, Slater and one more. To be fair - that’s because I’d let Palmer and Crooks go - but if they end up staying then maybe we don’t need another
Our current team would almost certainly get promoted out of league one. A good handful of them have done it before.
He's a case alright, another oaf that assumes guesswork, ifs a and supposition equals fact. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Quite simply; thank you Ivor Pandur All in all, a valuable point gained. We worked incredibly hard, particularly first half, to stay in this tough game. The gulf in quality was all to see, Cov had pacy players, moved the ball fast & purposefully, at times we reverted to dithering about at the back, standing on the ball. Yes, we had a couple of good chances to score, could have/should have, they had more. Our subs once again paid off, well done to Abu for scoring, but only one man responsible for delivering that point, the pink Pandur.
I'd be starting Drameh too. They ran around Coyle a few times that game. Amrabet is really strong and just seems to bully his way up and down the wing - definitely a 'from the bench, impact' type player though.
I’ve still never seen Lincoln play. Hopefully I will get a chance before the end of the season. Hoping to catch the game on Monday possibly.
Egans clearance with his shoulder right across the goal line was genius Stopped a certain goal It just took the ball away from their player for a tap in without putting it into the net himself
I think this is going to be one of the big issues of the summer. We've surely learned by now that we need to stop rebuilding every year. But at the same time, the squad we've ended up with is bloated and yet lacking in effective attacking options, so we need to get a lot of players off the books and also bring a few in if we want to score more goals. So it might be a bit of a rebuild whether we want it or not.
I'm hoping/expecting Belloumi/Miller/Matazo and possibly Barry will help with creating chances along with a new striker. I personally think more than 5 or 6 new players will be too many I agree with shifting players as we've got those returning from loans as well. Selles often said that he likes a small squad
It'll be interesting to see whether the club can resist signing a whole new team. Seems like every year we say 4-5 signings but then end up with 10.
I think there's been a tendency recently to question Selles' starting team where subs have come on and looked good and contributed positively, Kamara / Amrabat last night, previously Lincoln, Palmer in other games, they've then been given starts and 'under whelmed'. For me, the whole point of subs is to come on fresh and ready to go at a team who's been running around for 70 mins. With our team atm I don't think it matters who starts in general, they're all give or take equally competent, I'm thankful that we have the options off the bench to make changes that can impact results, something we'd looked short of a number of times in the past.
The issue with striker targets is that every man and his dog wants one and to boot there’s a lack of good options. Say if Luton, Cardiff and Plymouth go down you’re probably looking at Morris, Hardie and Salech available (Adebayo probably would be if he hadn’t just done his ACL) Morris will have a few after him. He screams as someone Wrexham would love if they came up. Salech has shown flashes in a struggling side and Hardie is a great box finisher but can go hot and cold. Even so all of those will cost money. Kone at Wycombe will be a hot topic. Again, I can see a relegated side like Ipswich or saints after him. You’d have to take a punt on a foreign prospect or hope someone that is available for free comes good like Riis or Brewster
Whilst all of that is true, it does seem like everyone else still finds decent strikers occasionally, and no matter how much we spend we can never seem to get one that's really effective. Even promoted clubs with half our budget seem to have someone up there who I'd never heard of before this season but bangs them in fairly regularly.
I'm sure we had a pretty decent striker a couple of season ago, who scored 12/13 goals in 36 ish games. Didn't cost us to much either. Shame he was forced out by the gaffer/club at the time and then didn't feel he was wanted at the club so moved on, as he was a 15/20 a season goal scorer.....not a great all rounder, but he knew how to put the ball in the net
