Nah. Unless Coventry really don’t show up, they’ll do us.

Wasn't he injured not long after signing for them which pretty much ended his professional career, or is my memory a little foggy ? I think I was 10 at the time so forgive me.

I remember the 3 nil lose in the cup.
My dad drove his friend, me and my mate to the match.
We was aged 14 at the time.
We got searched and my mate had his comb confiscated.
I seem to remember the police telling fans they had to remove their bovver boots before entering the ground.
The Cov and City fans were mixed in one of the stands behind the goal.
Always sensed that it might kick off and it probably would have done had Coventry lost.
Can't believe that was nearly 50 years ago.

Let’s face it, if we make it through 90 minutes without them ending up on the pitch we’ve done well.

He'd had 10+ years at City getting lumps kicked out of him, starting at 17, and in those days they were fairly clueless about fitness management and optimising a player's return from injuries.

Chris had had a lengthy injury absence prior to his move to Coventry and although his career ending back injury occurred after his move, the writing was on the wall before then.

He was still in his late 20s when he retired, although he did then play some non-League football for a while.

    Absolute legend.

    RIP Chris.

The previous year, the 1-0 to City, it really kicked off. City got in amongst their hardcore and it was hammer and tongs for the full game.
The next time the cops were more savvy and were waiting.
Seemed to recall Cov had a decent side that year. Dennis Mortimer, Willie Carr, Ernie Hunt, Colin Stein and Tommy Hutchinson, ran us ragged. Their manager was a young Gordon Milne. The previous season when we won 1-0 they were awful. There were protests after the game with some of their lot shouting for the removal of Noel Cantwell. I happened to mention the name Chris Chilton. They're weren't happy. Sadly Chris was past his best at that time.

Cov lost in the q/f to Wolves 2-0, I think, who lost to Leeds in the semi at Maine Road. Leeds lost to Sunderland, in the final, I think. Or maybe it was the year before when they beat Arsenal. I haven't checked.

That explains the high police presence then.
I never went to the 1972 match.
    Sunderland won it in 73.

4 - 0 to Coventry. City will play ‘well’ for 15 minutes and almost score and McCann will **** himself silly over the ‘great performance’.

Tbh my first full season being taken was 197071 , the year we should have gone up but faded in the last 5 games, imagine having your first full season watching the likes of Chillo, Waggy, Butler and Houghton rip teams another one, but strangely, my memories are always of Simpkin, who I remember as a tough tackler and sorter outer ! I was hooked from that point on tbh, but got to see the magic that happened between Chillo and Waggy for one full season at least.

Will be 4-0 to Cov today.

As long as we put in a "performance" though, that's the main thing!

Looking at the final league table for 70/71 and it looks like we Didnt score enough goals that season which I thought was quite surprising.

He was injured when he signed for them. We knew he was finished so it was good business on City’s part.

The more I read this thread, the more convinced I am that City will get something from this game.
