You can shoot wide when you should have scored so it's not impossible but he was still talking rubbish.
I think their are 3 teams that make it work on the playing side; the first is the whole team of manager, coaching/physio staff and then the playing squad. Then you have the coaching staff/medical giving their input and then last, but not least, the players. The good managers work these teams to make good decisions or, sometimes, calculated gambles. At the end of the game, though, the manager is on his own; wins are shared, whereas losses are most often taken in stark isolation. I liked Steve Agnew (still do - look at how Boro have changed gear since he joined them), but I seriously believe we have taken a great step forward bringing in Phelan.
