Reality check. No one came in for city players who were relegated. Their agents were not able to persuade any club to take them on so they had to accept a 50% wage reduction. Many of them seem to have accepted the situation rather than trying to impress at this level to get themselves noticed. If city gain promotion how few of this squad are capable of playing in the chsmpionship
Eaves just isn't a target man and playing up front on his own doesn't suit him at all. He'd have to play up alongside Magennis to get the best out of him, but to do that, we'd have to lose a midfielder, Honeyman would have to play deeper, and the wingers would have to drop too and do more work defensively. Just doesn't seem like a sensible option. January will be interesting. Jordy's contract is up in the summer and although LA Galaxy put in a stupidly low bid in the summer, was supposed to be roughly what we paid, I have a feeling we'd take it now if it's reoffered. We do have the option to extend by a year but what's the point, he clearly doesn't want to stay. It's not working out for Eaves, I can't see us letting him go to till the summer but it would make sense to bring someone else in to get us through this season. As in the summer, the question is who and there are very few obvious choices again. Do you take a punt? Ideally not someone from abroad as they often take time to acclimatise. However, football's a funny old game. A week ago, I think most thought Samuelson was done at this football club, now after a very good performance against Harrogate and a half decent cameo at the weekend, he's firmly back in contention. If Eaves can bang in a couple against Grimsby and follow it up against MK Dons it could be a different conversation
I've heard it mentioned a few times over the years that Waggy was on £500 a week. In that day and age, the average office working was on about £25 PW. So even then he was on a pretty good wage, and I would have thought Chillo was on similar. Maybe the attraction elsewhere wasn't as great as we might feel?
Word was Harold Needler saw Waggy alright with some shares. Not so sure Waggy would have been on that much. Bobby Charlton and Denis Law's highest ever contract was £750 per week.

Don't think it would have been as much as that. I first met Chris Chilton when he was labouring for Jeff Barmby one summer shutdown where I worked at the time. I'm sure Chris was still on City's books in some capacity then, although it was a long time ago. He told me, or someone did that the biggest wage packet Chris picked up at City was £200 a week. Don't forget Emlynn Hughes who won everything at the top level with Liverpool said he joined Hull City because we paid more then Liverpool, meaning even the very top players didn't earn a fortune in those days. £500 a week in the mid 70's was a Kings Ransom for one player and I cannot see Waggy getting anything like that then. I do remember Mike Smith coming as manager with an assistant in the early 80's, he was the manager of Wales at the time and City paid them a reported £500 a week which was a huge gamble then and eventually bankrupted the club. So Waggy on £500 a week in the 70's ? No chance.
You've lost me fella. That's not difficult, I know. But I can't ever recall Chillo, Waggy, or Pearson being in a relegated City side.
You're probably right, I've just seen the figure 2 or 3 times being mention by different people. I was just trying to find a reason why both Chillo and Waggy never left, apart from Chillo to Coventry in the end, but he was passed his best by then IMO.
City pulled a fast one with Chillo, they knew he had problems. Was once on a station years ago with some City fans coming back from a game, small place, can't remember how or why we ended up there, and Brian Clough was sat there. Obviously we went over to talk to him and he said, after finding out we were City fans, that he signed Francis Lee because he had wanted Waggy at one time and Lee reminded him of him and fitted the role. D8dn't say why it never came bought but did say, and you have to imagine it in a Clough voice, that of course he would have had more medals if he had joined me. It was rumoured Revie wanted Chilton in the 1960s.
It’s in the Clough biography by Paul Wilson He tapped waggy up. Think the city board put the mockers on it and then I think from memory Kevin hector came through at derby so didn’t need to pursue it
Tommy Smith's highest ever pay packet was £25,000, £15,000 basic and £10,000 in bonuses for winning the League, league Cup and European Cup. So Waggy being on £25,000 basis is a stretch, Him reaching that figure with any bonuses is a bigger stretch as after 1966 we never had a promotion.
A couple of years ago they were discussing in the pub which player you wish you club could have signed. Usual names bandied about. Then a Bradford City fan in his sixties said Kevin Hector. He said he used to go to watch Bradford Park Avenue just to see Hector. Blank looks from all the Man Utd and Liverpool fans. He was that chuffed I knew all about Hector that he bought me a pint.
In Chillo's book he says him self that he thought he was destined to Leeds under Revie and was crushed when he read in the morning paper that they had signed Mick Jones instead. Remember he said that the final offer or something from Leeds for him was turned down flat by Harold Needler and he wasn't even consulted. Re Kevin Hector, when he was in his prime it was said that he was born in Hull. This was bandied about at the time but recently I read that his birthplace in now Leeds ? He must have had some connection to Hull in his early days for it to be common knowledge at the time. Anyone shed any light on it ?
I heard people say he was born in Hull and another that got away. But, as you say, was born in Leeds. My office manager when I started work in Leeds was a Charlton fan who had moved there called Mick Jones. He used to enjoy hearing Leeds fans chanting his name. First game after Leeds signed Mick Jones they played Sheff Utd and their goalie was injured early in the game and their centre forward went in goal and had a blinder as the Blunts had a totally expected 1-0 win with a breakaway goal. Their fans spent the whole game chanting "You bought the wrong one!".
