A long standing fan I know, that goes again now, didn't go to Wembley as he hadn't been all season and thought it would be phoney to go. There are a whole host of different types out there.
I'll agree we didn't play brilliantly. Well we did for the first couple of months but from December onwards it was a real dour slog. But we got promoted because we did the business ourselves. Watford could have overtaken us but they didn't because they weren't good enough. We were the 2nd best team in the league that season and got promoted on merit. We let ourselves down towards the end don't forget but no one was good enough to capitalize. It works both ways.
I know of fans that 1) Only started going in 2008/09 first PL season but have been pass holders every season since and now ardent fans 2) Have only bought passes for our PL seasons and certainly couldn't be counted as City fans 3) Long term pass holders that have been fans for 50 years or more but health issues prevent them from attending As you say, there are probably dozens of different reasons why some fans do/don't attend and to try and pigeon hole everyone because of one reason is flawed.
Which coincided with our most influential player getting crocked for pretty much the rest of the season...
You could add fans who stopped going when we moved to the KC. Fans who just hate the PL experience, I'm in that as i think most are. Great to be matched against the best but the rest of the stuff that comes with it can **** off.
All clubs have floaters,no big deal, history proves City could usually fill Fer Ark with the right fixture or cup run, only to scuttle away again if they don't fancy it. Cost is now without doubt a massive factor for those who don't even fancy the instalment scheme. Many I know now pick home games but still travel, again thats their prerogative as most have stood by the club for donkey's years and in there minds owe the club ****all. More importantly in book is what level the club is at. Championship footy might be great for winnable local derby type games, but the REAL money and all that potentially usually follows these days only lives in the Premier League. Hateley OUT.
What were your thoughts on Meyler? Did you feel he lived up to his 'crab like self, and run around a lot again, shout and ball, take three touches and get booked, all the things somebody with limited ability does'?
My Uncle, who hadn't missed a home game at Boothferry Park for decades, never attended a game at the KC. He refused to go to a football match where you weren't allowed to stand.
Dunno, hopefully not, his mate to his immediate left was exactly the same. It looks weird, as if they're opposition supporters but have been made to wear our colours. Good spot.
You replied to one of my posts recently saying "are you me". Well I think we may be the same person cause I could have written that reply to DMD almost word for word. I was having a conversation with mates at weekend saying how when we used to go to City it was never about being entertained or to see a 'good game' of football. We were only ever interested in City winning. There's been a lot of discussion on this board about the poor tactics, dull matches, etc affecting attendances and I believe that's been driven by 20 years of over analysis on the TV. We all want to see good, attractive attacking football now and probably rightly so considering the price for watching.
Yes I know, but the site claims it was uploaded yesterday at 12 noon when it still wasn't up on the site last night.
Would you pay a visit to the opposition club prior to the game if you were going to be in the wrong end? It's a bit extreme.
Sounds very familiar...we may well be each other then! We'd even claim to be not overly bothered whether we won or not, it was as much about going out and about with friends, and a certain amount of tribal rivalry too, despite saying that we absolutely cared, and still can't help going mental when we score and getting pissed of when the opposition scores It's ingrained
