Tuesday 7:45pm Can’t wait to see this pitch Akin not Acun to a WW1 no man’s land it’s that bad apparently. Strangely never noticed against Fulham apart from the ball was stopping a bit in the middle. Anyways a game we need to win No idea what Shota will do for this one but hopefully we will be more attack minded than previous games. City to win 4-0

The place name origins lie in the Saxon word "Berne", for barn or storehouse, and "Lay", for field The first reference to Barnsley occurs in 1086 in the Domesday Book, in which it is called Berneslai and has a population of around 200. Barnsley was the site of a stampede that resulted in the deaths of 16 children in 1908, at a public hall now known as The Civic, when children were rushing to watch a film in the building. In 1977, Barnsley was home to the first bottle bank for glass recycling collection in the United Kingdom. In 2002, plans were proposed to remodel Barnsley into a Tuscany Village. The icing on the cake would have been a beaming halo of light, circling the centre 60 feet in the air to encase the town in a glow of light. The project was named "Rethinking Barnsley" and after a long and expensive consultation, the final decision was made to put the large-scale model of the town with a ferret sitting in the middle of it, and a model fighter-plane sitting somewhere else, in the museum (where it still resides) and rename the project "Remaking Barnsley". Ken Loach's 1969 film Kes was set and filmed in several villages in Barnsley. Barnsley has more pigeon roosts than there are beds in Portugal hotels. Barnsley FC fielded the youngest ever player to appear in the Football League back in September 2008, with winger Reuben Noble-Lazarus making his debut against Ipswich Town in a 3-0 defeat as a substitute, coming on to the field at 15 years and 45 days old. Joseph Bramah was from Barnsley. His patented design created the flushing kharzi as we know it today. Barnsley is the football league club that City has played the most in senior games against. Barnsley scored the last ever goal in the last ever competitive match played at Boothferry Park when Isaiah Rankin put the ball in the net. It is home to Pollyanna – the oldest independent fashion boutique in the country. Tommy Taylor, one of the Busby Babes was from Barnsley. He was sold to Man U for a record £29,999. Busby didn't want Taylor to have the pressure of being the first £30,000 player, so gave the extra pound to the tea lady.
That was the game that put me off managers who would "rather lose 3-2 than draw 0-0" for good! Ran into a hip high post in West Park afterwards as well and thought I'd done me knee in All turned out well in the end though. Parkinson went at Xmas, Brownie came in and the rest os history
Bloke I knew once bought a house in Barnsley "off plan" on what looked like a rather upmarket plot only to find that the street was eventually named Mucky Lane.
Even though on paper, we should win both, I would prefer we just don't lose either match. 2 draws would be better than one loss and a win, even if you only get 2 points rather than 3 with the latter IMO. Having said that we should have enough to win both games or at least win at home and draw away. I guess the questions are, with Cartwright start, and who is likely to be in midfield? Maybe Alfie Jones will be rested, and Slater comes in to start, or Docherty is given a go, maybe 2 defensive midfielders won't be needed in this one? I think he will stick with Forss upfront. Here's hoping for another good performance, as these 2 games are so important.
I like that 'Mucky Lane', It sounds like it should be a street in Ankh Morporpk. By the way, I'm looking forward to the game between us and the Unseen Academicals...
Looking forward to it too, waterproofs at the ready assuming the ground staff can get the pitch ready in time
Watched Kes yesterday for the first time in years. In the famous football match where Casper is in goal they choose to play Manchester United 1 Spurs 2, one lad in a Burnley shirt, none of them in a Barnsley shirt, glory hunters?
You'll be interested in the Vimes Boot Index that Jack Monroe has just got permission to use for an index of cost of living then?
Football is so weird at times… Last season Barnsley were on a right roll This season, they are a basket case… Just a few months in between… Funny old game !!!!!!!
