i just saw that Hernandez turned down Saints as he wanted European football thought it would be worth a sniff ,thoughhe should be able to find a champions league club on the continent
Cant see us getting Hernandez personally. Seems like a player who would want to go to a "bigger" club than us.
As a proper winger, he's a good player for us. As a wing-back in a 5-3-2 cum 3-5-2, he's a total liability defensively, often neglecting his duties out of laziness. Countless goals against us last season were almost entirely his fault, due to him not tracking back, ball-watching, etc.
Apparently Van Der Vaart has emerged as a strong target. Not sure he's the answer to our problems, but we do seem to play 3-5-1-1 a lot, so it could be true I suppose.
"Fee of £12m agreed between Hull City and Southampton for Shane Long. With the player expected to complete his move to Liverpool on Friday."
Disagree with that. As a winger he is completely one-dimensional and never cuts in, always plays in an early cross which rarely gets an assist. As a fullback he is dire and can't defend. As a wing-back he is very good as his work rate allows him to get up and down the pitch and both defend/attack. I wouldn't play him in a 4 at the back formation with the wingers we now have available.
Back in 2009 I remember reading a post on some forum where the guy said (and he was deadly serious) that we had a great chance of signing Van Der Vaart because; A) he could get back to Holland on the ferry if he needed to from Hull. B) that his wife, who was suffering from breast cancer at the time, could be treated at Castle Hill. He decided to stay at Real Madrid. He won't come here.
Our transfer window has suddenly spiced up. I thought our dealings were done, but this makes things interesting.
Can we use some of the 12 million to buy this guy - fantastic commitment http://www.joe.ie/football/videos/vine-leeds-united-player-sent-off-for-a-ridiculously-high-two-footed-tackle/
Every cloud has a silver lining. Long and his family don't want to be here and if that is true then I say **** them and do one. Great player. Hard worker. Pace. But his score ratio is poor. Making a relatively large profit on a player who had only been here a few months is great business and he is hardly prolific. We already needed a striker and if he goes we defiantly need a replacement and maybe another striker. The timing is incredibly poor and frustrating and may cause unrest in a squad that had been preparing for months. However this is Alukos's opportunity to stir a claim and it may see him raise his game in this match. Long has pace but Aluko has more. I expect to see one or even two of these Borini. Wickham. Rhodes, Ings or Deeney.
