Annoyingly the graffiti art down Humber St (the Pinky stuff) is being painted over, or covered over anyway, by the owners of the building that's it's on I think it's Butler & Whites and their next doors It was commissioned by HCC, and I thought it was great. Although commissioning it on a building and then leaving it up to the owners whether they keep it or not seems foolish? Very sad
It's not about blind optimism or blind anything. I ****ing hate litter. It's just irrelevant when it comes to City of Culture, and when people go on about it all the time it's symptomatic of a very negative outlook.
We should follow the example of Cardiff. They have Wardens that issue on the spot fines and if you dont agree to pay they call the Law and its instant arrest.
Was in Princes Quay Thursday it was a depressing experience, not sure where it goes from here, I read somewhere about some new life being pumped into it, I hope its soon as it seems on life support to me at the moment, pitty really.
Hope it goes titz and soon. Then get it demolished and restore the dock to an open water space in our city centre. Leeds has a pissy little canal and they think it's waterside living. We've got proper water features. Let's see some proper development of Prinny Dock, we're halfway there with the Ferens bordering it and Princes Dock side with its cafes and bars.
Fair is there every year so it's hardly COC only, but went down Walton St and fings ain't wot they used to be. It's all food down Walton St now, with just the odd ride- must have been 5 or 6 places selling Wright's Brandy Snap . Used to be fortune tellers, freak shows, toys, pop tat, football tat and all manner of varied **** on both sides of Walton st, now it's all just down one side. Only Bob Carver is still where he used to be. Burgers already getting fried and stockpiled this morning ready for use hours later. Can you still get goldfish, coconuts et or has it all gone PC and Sustainable?
You're dead right City Man. I used to love looking at them pickled Siamese Twins in that big jar and that piglet with 2 heads. It's all **** now.
Dint even have that thing where they have big wooden skittles and you bang an old fashioned leather ball at em to knock em down. Was it just me or were they weighted so they veered off instead of going straight??
Dunno mate but did they have the Tanks which were shaped like tins of Plumrose ham that you rolled through little tunnel shaped holes down a slight incline?
I haven't seen them for a while. As said earlier I was **** hot on them as a kid. I'd love to play that game now see if I've still got the moves.
