So again. The council weren't interested. We loaded them into a skip or a grab wagon came and took all the spoil. Rather than it going to landfill I took some home with me. I'll tell you another story. When I lived down portobello the pavement at the top end was all yorkstone flags laid at the beginning of the 20th century. They were superb .the council ripped them up and tarmaced the paths. I spoke to some of the council lads I knew who did the work and they told me they'd asked to have them but they were made to take them all to tip. Stupidity. That's the council for you in hull.
So again, "In hull they didn't give a **** and you just tarmaced it or put em back if you could be arsed" It's not all the councils fault (any council not just Hull) It would be nice if everyone had a perfect work ethic (no way is this aimed at you Chazz) and did every job to the best of their ability but unfortunately these days there are time and money constraints which mean sometimes **** happens. That's all from me on this subject
As I said dig up in Beverley and they had a council crew waiting who took up and replaced them when you finished. This was if down the main town centre bits. In hull the council site fella would come and say nowt about replacing them. I'd happily stayed and relaid them but which do you think is quicker? Relaying 30 yards of setts or tarmacing 30 yards? If the council aren't demanding it then the contractor isn't going to "waste" another two days relaying them.
All utilities must replace the flags they take up, there’s strict rules since the public realm works were done.
The bits that have been tarmaced have been like it for coming on two weeks, the other guys I've seen working have put the blocks straight back
That's what I love about this place. Where else can two blokes have a cross thread barney about paving stones? Then a moderator wade in quoting procedural law. Love it. Having just got in from a 12 hour firefighting ****storm I now feel suitably relaxed.
Sounds like they've bodged it and scampered. Been easier to replace the slabs. Now they have to dig out the tarmac with a jack hammer and that can loosen the surrounding slabs.

she was stalling at the top of the escalators because she’d never been down one before. This was 1986 <- Oh really? Soft sod, what's he on about?
Rubbish. It's a patch. If the problem ug is sorted which it is then it can be put back to its original state.
People aim posts like yours at the Council daily, they regularly explain who dug it up and why there's been a delay in reinstating it.
And as I keep saying there is no need to delay it. The fault Is fixed so they've tarmaced it for quickness when they could have done the job straightaway in the first place. Instead you have a large unsightly black mess in the middle of the newly laid street. A fortune was spent on laying slabs when they could have just tarmaced the ****ing lot. It's been over two months in the city of culture year. That's ****.
Anyone see Handmade In Hull on BBC 4 last night? It was excellent, it showed some really talented locals, it's on catch up if anyone fancies it... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09g0l2v
Have to agree, I was only making that point about the cobbles that the utility companies have dug up near Green Bricks, they never put them back carefully as close to how they were put originally. Half the reason we end up with pot holes, is that the repairs are done shoddily.
