I've got an unopened bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario XO sitting in a display box behind my desk at work. Liquid gold. Had a taster of the same rum at a work event the other week, no ice, no nothing. Smooth smooth smooth. Not cheap but treat yourself at least once.

He's bang on trend, whether he knows it or not. Sherry is über cool these days and predicted to be one of the growth products of 2017.

Bit like Aperol was a couple of years back and now every ****er is drinking it despite everyone I served it to 5 years ago pulling a face on first sip.

Actually Castro when I first met my future father in law, he was a chief engineer on trawlers, he had a drink ready for me. It was a cold snowy night and he asked me if I was cold, so I said yes, he replied that I should get that down ya, referring to the drink he had ready. I asked what it was but he said don't worry just do this, and he supped his straight off, it was in quite a large glass, so I followed suit. It was rum and port a favourite of his, it took me a while to get my breath back but I had another afterwards :) The mixture was 50/50 by the way.

Rum and port is indeed quite pleasant on a cold day. But to me putting stuff like coke in a decent dark rum is a no-no. That is what the crappy white rums were invented for.<laugh>

As I said, if you ever come across Pusser's give it a try. Neat of course. Great stuff. All of Pusser's rums are good but the standard navy one is superb and their 54.5% Gunpowder one is something else.

What I am pleased about is the acknowledgement, from a newspaper person, belated maybe, that Hull has received a bad press for many years, but even locals who post comments, especially on the HDM website, are often derisory. The original aim of C.O.C. was to raise Hull's profile and hope, with no guarantee, that investment would follow to regenerate areas that is still badly need it. I am pleased the way the C.O.C. has kicked off, the organisers have done well to present some interesting attractions, yes including the blade, and there is a lot to follow. On a personal level I have, up to now, tried to see as much as I can, but I've probably missed something along the way, the only disappointment, well to me, was the noise in Zebedee's Yard, I wasn't impressed. But the rest has been awesome up to now, keep it going lads and lasses.

The sort of big show we've missed out on in the past, but is now coming to the New Theatre and it's supposed to be very good...

Took my wife to see it last year as a birthday treat - it really was very good, if it is only £19 it's great value too, I paid £150 for two so/so seats.

When you book your tickets make sure you don't accidentally buy tickets off the site that sold them when it was there a couple of years ago...
